Today's City Council Meeting

muscatine_news
Muscatine's city council meeting today began with the swearing in of a couple new public safety officers, which preceded the recognition of Officer Mark Lawrence for his work in arresting stolen good traffickers, trafficking more than a quarter million in stolen goods.

The city also approved various bills and resolutions with little discussion, including the use of 2nd Street for Cinco de Mayo for Mami's, bond approval, and a cigarette permit holder violation settlement. There was some discussion about items related to the Muscatine Municipal airport.

"This is a very worthwhile investment," said Jerry Lange during a discussion about investing in new bullet proof vests for our police officers, which would allow officers to replace older bullet proof vests. All officers are issued bullet proof vests when joining the department, and this money will be used to replace some of the older vests.

A couple council members mentioned in remembrance the passing of Mr. Meyer. Harvey Allbee and the mayor spoke about the Muscatine Symphany Orchestra. Fran Donelson took a moment to note the earth day celebration will be moved to the transfer station.
