As a guy, here is what I think would be likely to ease me into being receptive to you eventually opening up about those feelings. I'd say just start with light conversation and ask them casually if they would be interested in seeing a movie, getting lunch or some other casual hang out activity. After a few times if you get those meeting arrange, then follow with telling them how you like hanging out with him. Then from there after a while, you could ask about if they are single, plans for the future. Then you could formally ask him on a date.

Woo! Well my 2025 is off to a busy start. Making some serious lifestyle changes after some intense personal revelations, I might be getting a promotion at my evening job, looking to take on more hours at the morning gig, and there may be some other matters coming down the pipe. Here's hoping your 2025 is less hectic than mine. Keep powering through, everyone!

Well this is a part of dementia. There is a mix of impulse control, thus personal filter that breaks down during the run of this condition. But there is also the element of increased aggression stemming from confusion and memory lapse. Just not sure how to respond to anything. So it may be a 50/50 split on this. But as someone who comes from a family with a long legacy of bad blood relations and even some of my own negative traits I am learning to confront, I would say try to give her as much understanding and forgiveness as you can manage. It may be that if she had more self awareness, dementia or not, she'd probably break down from the weight of guilt and self loathing towards her own words and actions. I say this because there were sign of this in my grandmother as well when she had moments of lucidity.

I am so sorry that you all are going through this. I get what you are going through as my Grandmother had some bad episodes with her dementia in her final years. I pray for all of you, and especially your grandmother.

Butt Mommy ® @wei_ying Sometimes we theorize about if some of her violence stems from parts of her actual personality. Our grandma apparently wasn't actually a very nice person deep down (nasty comments, putting on an act when others were around, etc.) And she was prone to make very negative comments (something she has no control over now that she has no proper brain function). We don't doubt that it is the illness effecting her at times, but we also ponder on if it's taking feelings that have been buried for a long time out of her. Sorry for rambling, Cookie, your prayers are greatly appreciated. ❤️

Butt Mommy ® @wei_ying There's no issue in giving her that understanding. Though it's a bit more tough on our mom who doesn't have that proper relationship with her mom due to the way she treated her growing up, but, our mom makes her own efforts to be as patient as can be while my sisters and I try to relieve her stress in anyway possible. We do also believe that she thinks our mom is one her sisters and not her daughter, because she really despises one of her older sisters and the way she talks to our mom sounds like she's thinking of someone else.

Chocopyro @chocopyro My brother went through some of that during his chemo treatment towards the end. Kept misremembering things, thinking conspiratorial thoughts about his doctors and nurses, and stuff like that, because the neuro passages in his brain were shutting down. He'd be talking to people, calling them names that weren't theres. Misremembering his age as 22. What happened to him as a result of blasting his brain with chemo and radiation constantly is what occurs naturally in some older folk. Here's one thing I learned. The memories? They're still there. It's only the path to them that decays. If you could find a back door in, they will gain lucidity, but sometimes you have to walk them through what they do remember to get there. Something they have an associated memory to often does the trick.

Butt Mommy ® @wei_ying Yeah, we definitely know that she has memories that stick, especially due to traumatic incidences she never git proper healing with. It doesn't help she grew up in a time period where the phrase: "out of sight, out of mind" was a huge thing. Funny that you mentiom chemotherapy and she's also had that done at least twice I believe.

Our grandma has it and it's getting worse. She talks to the TV as though the people in it are talking to her, and she's attacked our mom about three times and our baby brother once (on top of talking about guns, dying, shooting herself/someone else, on top of occasionally threatening to stab people).

Sorry I've not been so active lately, everyone. There has been a hecking lot happening over the past couple months. Here is a quick run down. So stuff has come to my attention regarding my parent's health and I've been in a process of having affairs with my brother set in place for the eventuality of their passing. They are in good health as of now, but some stuff came up getting us more focused on this. Been in a process of downsizing stuff from my apartment and selling on Ebay like crazy. Been shipping out 3-10 packages almost every day for the past 4 weeks. That and I have been going through some training that should prepare more for the next phase of my career in finance. So yeah. All of this has been happening the past couple months.

I am ending up paying for my mother's oxygen concentrator on my own because my mother is refusing to pay it and I can't get the company to drop the charges. Her insurance is covering most of it but still has a $169 for the equipment rental fee or some shit. I of course *cannot* tell her this or she'll freak out. It's $27 that will put me in another deficit. It is stressful living with a person who is filled with such hatred and is unable to control their emotional outbursts.
