It's crazy how much I actually think about that movie. For some reason it stuck with me. From the organic gun to the way he has to scrub his body every morning with lava rocks to get rid of any loose skin sells that would betray his identity.
Oops correction, the organic gun scene was from eXistenZ which came out around the same time, also sci-fi, also had Jude Law.

Honestly if I had a kid I'd juice that baby up with all the genetic enhancements I can. See in the dark, super speed, super strength, tall. That kid would be living life on easy mode.

There's a difference... I'm not arguing against figuring out ways to end genetic defects... But, yes... Let's take that route. Beep beep, I'm a jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!! If I could figure a way to stop the odds of either of my children having to go through the depression bullshit they'll likely endure(Just a hunch on my part... unfortunately.), I'd do that in a heartbeat . Would I choose how they look or say...increase intelligence or some other shit? Nope. But, let's float this moral grey ship, shall we?

In the movie Gattaca, that's exactly what the parents did. Their first child was born with a very high risk of having a heart condition. So their only request for their 2nd was that he was healthy. They left the rest up to chance.
That said, some other parents wanted their kid to be born with 6 fingers on each hand to be a better pianist. I think that's going a bit too far, but the kid is still better off than being born with a crippling birth defect. 6 fingers could also be handy if the kid wanted to be a rock climber, guitar player, or wide receiver.

Would you feel different about your (Or, yourself?) parents knowing they chose to have you on the condition that you looked or could perform a certain way? That's the moral grey(One, really. There are plenty more.), but I'm sure you know that. It's a fun hypothetical, I suppose. Sure, cure all ailments, I'm all on board for that part and see no morality issues there.

Isn't that the problem faced by every invention created with good intentions. There's no shortage of people finding ways to use it in ways it was never supposed to be.
That's where the importance of ethics comes into play when it comes to the medical field and life in general.
I mean aren't parents already doing stuff like that when they decide their child is the wrong gender? A lot of kids go through weird phases as they grow up. My niece went through a phase for 6 months where she decided she was a cat. I don't see that as a reason to start medically altering their body. Some parents apparently think they should.
Wouldn't it have been better for the parent to make that decision before the child was born? Might have saved the kid a life time of therapy.
But who's to say.
