bottom of the ocean

i was watching this stream on twitch on a game called soma which takes place at the bottom of the ocean, and it got me thinking. Nasa plans out all these space missions and junk...when we dont know whats at the bottom of the ocean. i mean like who knows there are probably things down there that we need that can help us out in making it further out in space like a new element. then like the life down there we are pretty much unfamiliar with, why is it that we havent worked on going down there as much as we do going out in space? what are your thoughts about this?

Going down there is pretty hard, the pressure builds up more and more the further you go. Go down too far and your sub will be crushed like tinfoil. There have indeed been usefully things found there, like oil deposits. but yeah most people don't realize how much of the ocean hasn't been explored yet. Who knows what could be found down there.

There's prominent researchers that still explore the deep depths. You see their specials all the time on Discovery and National Geograpic channels. But as far as trying to find some sort of planet saving elements down there, there may be unobtanium but it still won't save the destruction we put on the planet by just being. The only things down there are volcanic vents, lumnescent fish, and pilotfish. The reason why they put so much focus on Mars is because it's distance from the sun is not too far from our own which is why they keep trying to find sustainable life forms. They aren't looking for transient beings or humanoids, but a contingency plan when we destroy the earth. It's sad.

Then there's the overpopulation factor. We are not too many years away that the population on earth will not be sustainable. First there will not be enough food to feed everyone. Poor nations already struggle with starvation. Next comes the famine and disease and plagues. One mutation in anything we have now can wipe most of us out, I.e. Incurable gonorrhea. We are a ticking time bomb.

As far as overpopulation is concerned, we have the resources, but man is greedy. Think about that the next time you have three meals in a day while others are lucky to eat as much in a week. And don't worry, the earth will kill us before we kill it and something else will take over in due time. As for mars, yeah it would make a good second home once we learn to terraform. We are like a virus, continually seeking to propagate and destroying along the way. Oceans are a lot harder to deal with than space at this point, with pressure and all. But, we'll get there, we do have rovs that can go to the bottom of the deepest areas, however they can only do so much.

Most of you make a valid points. Explorer usually trying find what's benefit the society but society taking advantage on earth way too much. Most people like us don't treasure the earth and if it get destroy is by us. Going to Mars is an option but if it happen one day, there will be war fighting for territory. By then we all going to be dead until our new generation decide their future and how well they treat the Earth.

I get the pressure makes it hard to explore down there but im just saying millions and millions of dollars are spent exploring a different planet when we dont even know whats on our own. What is at the bottom of an abyss could be life changing but we never know there is more water than there is land and it will take years maybe even decades to explore every inch...i mean we have sonars and rovers that can do the job but they are only so accurate, and work to some degree. I get that mars might save us in the future when life can no longer live on earth but think about it we fought for land in the past whats to say we wont do the same? Its a new planet once it can hold human life we most likely will fight over it, cause thats how humans are. Unless some kind of martian virus kills us off first.

Haven't you guys seen the Bioshock documentary? We have tried to live at the bottom of the ocean. What began as an utopian society quickly turned into a violent rebellion. The city went into a state of decay, and to make matters worse, the experiments that were being conducted only fueled the chaos. As many had no clue as to the where abouts of this city, they were cut off from any sort of aid. A bloody civil war ensued causing countless deaths and the rapid destruction of the city. So the moral of the story is, don't build cities on the bottom of the ocean....
