I don't have any experience in your particular job field, but I have heard stories from others regarding the unpaid internship cycle. Oftentimes they never pay out because they expect people to give up and quit before they are hired, or offered compensation. Sometimes this process takes multiple years... how people can survive that long without pay I have no idea... My take is this: Look for a job. Doesn't even have to be field related. Stock a grocery store or something to pay the bills. Get your work experience on your cv/resume and keep searching for jobs. Don't be afraid to throw up a little patreon or something and do commission work or whatever you feel enhances your portfolio. Just do what you need to do to put food on the table, and keep your eyes open for opportunities. Wish you the best.
