I think there are a couple factors that you might not be considering. You are specifically talking about generals in charge of combat arms, the doors kickers and armor commanders who are going to be in the thick of things tearing the enemy up, and the men and women under their command. They want to fight and to experience combat. Personally, I don't want pacifists commanding my combat troops. I want both warriors and the men who lead them to be ready to engage the enemy, and destroy them utterly. I want them aggressive and tough. If every combat soldier was reluctant to go into battle, we would not have a very effective fighting force. His said, there is kind of a duel mentality that goes on. War is terrible, and a lot of soldiers would be fine if they never had to take a life, but most people in combat arms still want to get into the thick of it one day before they get out. If people don't want to get put into combat, there are tons of other MOS in the army they can go into where they will serve and probably not have to make that choice to take a life or not.

I don't much care for listening to the radio or current popular music all that much. Lot of music these days also have some rather repulsive lyrics these days. Suggesting or out right encouraging degenerate behavior, decadence, and depravity. These are not the sort of things I want to listen to regardless of how catchy the tune behind them might be. Even without horrible messages much of what's popular now just feels very shallow and soulless.
