My brother will criticize me on anything I do, but watching anime is probably one of the things he wont. I remember going over to his house and watching anime. Robotech was his favorite. May sound nice, but he is still a dick. xD Possibly why I act nearly the same. Just not that much criticism.

my folks are cool with me being an otaku..... they realized it could be much worse. i dont smoke, i dont do drugs, i only drink to drink not to get drunk (im 23 as well). my folks hav never tried to change who i am. they hav actually mostly encouraged me to act the way i wish to and not care wat others think of me... outside of the couple of times i did something out of there comfort zone... brought home a set of swords and spent over a hundred bucks on an anime (the first time anyways) my rl friend (yes just one) is an otaku as well and my online buddies dont care its the people in the "real" world that for some reason hav a problem with me when they find out that im some super nerd...... truthfully i hav no idea why :)

The harshest critics are my own family members. "Why aren't you studying for the SAT?" "Why aren't you doing your homework?" "Why are the boobs always so big and pointy?" "Why are you wasting your time watching your cartoons?" "Move over, I wanna watch my (really bad modern show that just happens to be American, like Total Drama Island). Oh, you don't want to stop watching your cartoons?" -goes to tell on me for not being productive- "You're never gonna go to Japan hurr durr" I can't say anything back to them or the caca will hit the fan. But for Chrissakes, if I really wanted to go to Japan, I'd apply for a study abroad program or something. Most of my friends are into anime and manga, so I feel accepted there, at least. Then there's the whole action I took by making an account here, and that's been awesome. (Thanks, guys, for making me feel like I belong somewhere.)

I've heard every line you put up Kyetge, but in my case it's not because my family isn't accepting. They're just annoying bastards. lol. We're known for our sarcasm and confrontiveness, and being someone with AvPD, I've developed a thick skin for it. Still a pain in the ass though. Especially when you're in the middle of a show. It is nice having a place where people understand, though.

well I always get the Why are you still watching cartoons thing. My family is cool with it but some of my friends just think I am a big kid that needs to grow up rofl. Which maybe I am I mean 36 and I wear Costumes play video games and Watch Anime, but hey I hold down a full time job pay my bills and take care of the important stuff that needs to be done... So *shrug* I am still a kid at heart and Love this life style... It's me and I am Proud of it hehe. I am glad there is places like this to just Shoot the breeze about stuff I am Passionate about!

my family was weird about it at first, and folks all through school were dicks about it...but my family came around and my schoolmates learned quickly that my being a band-geek, anime fan didn't make me any less capable of beating them senseless if they knocked my manga on the ground or talked too much smack...so...I am a unique case...my otaku friends call me a closet badass, and my non-otaku friends call me a closet nerd...so...it balanced out nicely for me...btw the most accepting environment for my otakudom i ever lived in was the Marine corps. one of my subordinates was japanese and two others were just straight up Anime freaks...i guess what I'm saying is being a well rounded person takes a lot of the pressure off...and most people at work have gotten used to the fact that i swear in japanese as often as english or Finnish
