I don't think it's alive unless it can survive and think for itself. On day 1 can you take it out and it function? It's just a bunch of cells with the potential to develop into a living being at that point.

Well then that gets into the debate whether it is an autonomous human being or not, but not an argument against it being alive. For example, paramecium and bacteria have the qualifications to be alive under the scientific definition, yet they do not think nor do they have the capacity to do so. On top of that they require very specific conditions in order to survive from moisture content, temperature, chemical composition of their environment, etc.. Bring the same metric to the Day 1 cells and we have something similar where those need specific conditions in order to survive. The main difference between the paramecium/bacteria and the day 1 cells is that the day 1 cells have a human genome with a new DNA structure separate from the mother and father.

Well, it's the autonomous human part that is important for the moral argument. It is a bunch of cells, that's it. It is not a human, and it cannot survive outside of a body. It's basically a leaching parasite that feeds on a woman's energy and health.

@manga_bird Of course not. A dictatorship would be actually worse. I just said about think-tanks. A small, aristocratic (not in the scope of royal family thing) think-tank is better than a large one, due to the fact that large intelectual circles would kill their members' individual thought as they try'll to emulate their higher peers and an eventual dogmatic defence of their think-tank to look cool (and edgy) in the pic. Not only that, it's hard to control your public in a large think-tank. This generates a corrupted political/social movement, ergo, cattle for politicians. Examples of that? The right-winging think tanks, PragerU and Turning Point in the US. Endorsing a line of thought or a political system is not wrong. Never will. The problem is turning it into an ideology (an idealization of society, sometimes trying to change it by force) and defending it. That's sometimes the case of Liberalism, Socialism and even Fascism, that ironically claims to be against the "ideologies", while being an ideology itself.

Although I complain a lot about society, I know I cannot change it. And I am glad of this, because not only I wouldn't do better, my "ideal society" would also fail in so much areas I don't even know. My (individual) solution to what I complain is to take what good things society has, grin with it and endorse what would make things a bit better in my opinion. Although I think some people would feel better if they did the same.

Deep fried egg rolls from a gas station deli always taste better than the spring rolls made at an authentic Asian restaurant. https://static.thedaringkitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Banner-Spring-roll.png
