I wasnt gonna pay for the nytimes anyway since they are mostly lefties. But it talked about the temple of baal and how it was destroyed and they tried to bring it to NY.

Here ik they simply replaced temple of baal for bel in this article. But snopes also has their own "fact check" about the temple saying its false. I tried to pick non-religious sources cuz people like to argue bias.

The temple, dedicated in 32 AD to the Mesopotamian god Bel, attracted 150,000 tourists yearly until 2011, when the civil war in Syria began. A plan to exhibit a model of the Temple of Bel — also known as the Temple of Baal — in Times Square or Union Square is awaiting approval from the Mayor’s Office, Michel said. "Temple of Bel" https://smarthistory.org/temple-of-bel-palmyra/#:~:text=Among%20the%20many%20surviving%20monuments,overlapped%20and%20inter%2Dmixed%20there. Among the many surviving monuments of Palmyra is the remarkable temple of the Semitic god Bel or Baal. A discussion of its architectural features demonstrates both the plurality of artistic and architectural styles in the ancient Mediterranean, and the numerous cultures that frequently overlapped and inter-mixed there. "Who is the semetic god bel" https://www.britannica.com/topic/Marduk Marduk was later known as Bel, a name derived from the Semitic word baal, or “lord.” Bel had all the attributes of Marduk, and his status and cult were much the same. Bel, however, gradually came to be thought of as the god of order and destiny. In Greek writings references to Bel indicate this Babylonian deity and not the Syrian god of Palmyra of the same name. https://anthrowitchology.tumblr.com/post/624090576942465024/angel-demon-or-deity-baal-the-canaanite-word Baal is the canaanite word for god and Ashtaroth was the word for goddess. When the Isaelites entered Canaan they saw the “Cult of Baal”/”Baal Worship”, this just means they saw the worship of their pagan gods. Every district had its own “baal.” Baal worship was in direct competition of this new abrahamic religon, Which is why they made a way to demonize the baals. “Prince Baal” Also known as the God of thunder was mocked by these abrahamic folllowers and they changed his name into “Baalzebub/Beelzebub” the “lord of the flies.” Who later became a popular demon in christian demonology. Another baal called “Baal-Peor” was turned into Belphegor, an other well known demon of hell. Baal in it’s pural form is baalim. Bael is alternate form of Baal, later developed into a completley seperate deity. Many of the demons of the old testament are actually pagan gods, that were demonized to prevent the Isaelites from worshiping them. Baal worship went a long way, some say that Set was introduced into the egyptian pantheon from the Semitic people when they invaded the Nile delta in 1700 BC.

Reads like Christianity turned a pagan god into a boogeyman.

The real "Temple of Baal", was an ancient temple located in Palmyra, Syria. In the Bible, Baal is the name given to several different deities who are designated as false gods or idols. However, it is most often used to describe the specific Canaanite-Phoenician god of fertility and rain. Additionally, Baal is associated with Beezlebub, demons, and the devil. The Temple of Baal is a replica of the real one from Syria which was destroyed by centuries ago by the Roman's. Biblical or historical replicas are everywhere in museums nowadays so we can learn about them more and its culture.

See this is kind of misleading as many of these "false gods" operate under the same premise. So while the name changes the act remains the same. Reading through exodus and now leviticus i can see how even some of the things within the bible ritual wise seem paganistic. But there is a vast difference, it is meant to mock God and christianity. Where in the bible you slay an animal sprinkle its blood on an altar separating its innards in a specific way and seasoning in a certain way. The opposite to this is the sacrificing of children and humans. See the media i consume kind of gives me insight into this. Watching vikings the show which made comparisons with pagan gods and Christians. It put things in perspective but after exploring the dark trinity more it sort of paint the picture if the dark trinity is meant to mirror the holy one why not even mirror their rituals.
