Not disconnected, but I am socially awkward! Cringe is my life and most understand on a fundamental level what I am on about. That said I have always been reserved in person which can put many people off. Never got deep into the party scene though I have been to a few and chilled at a couple bars. Ultimately people are all weird or awkward in their own ways. Popularity isn't defined as we make it. Sometimes you're on top of the world while other times you hide in the background. For me it changes from day to day or even hour to hour depending on the crowd. As for culture I have relatives in Taiwan as well as France so I can appreciate different backgrounds easily. World isn't too different outside of language and appearances.

Hmm...yes and no? I don't feel like a should be anything else, like Japanese, though. I guess I feel more 'out of time' than 'disconnected'. I imagine I would have done quite well as a Victorian women, wearing corsets and pretty dresses. At the same time I do like the things we have now, like computers and stuff. I guess I don't like the every day people in my culture, but then I'm not a huge fan of the people from other cultures either. Maybe I just don't like 'people' in general.

Not disconnected from my culture~ I'm the one of the successors~at the same time, I'm pretty curious about other cultures and commonalities we share.

American media i find in general contentions more extroverted or characters with exasperated character traits. I can see why it can be hard to relate to characters in American media. As an introvert, I feel the same way. People say I'm kinda like that tv show character Monk that has old but I've never seen the show. I agree with you that I find myself relating more to anime characters. Not because of weeb subculture, but well written anime has many flawed characters and tend to focus more on character development rather than plot.

Culture is only one thing that influences the kind of person you are. Culture is also entirely man-made as well. Just because you were born in a certain culture, doesn't make you bound to it. There are lessons to be learned from most major "cultures", as many of the customs and beliefs come from somewhere. As to feeling alienated, it may just be your local culture, as there are quite a few places in the US that are very sheltered from the world, since we are such a large and spread out country. Believe me, when I say that there are many places where the general attitude is very xenophobic. There are plenty of other places in the US that may both fit and accept your ideals and ways of thinking. As an example, I identify as a mix of American, Japanese, German, and Scandinavian when it comes to at least my ideals and "culture" (I take what I believe are some of the best facets of each to hold as my own ideals). I am a little out of my element where I live due to the overwhelming type of culture that people tend to have here, which hold some opposite ideas in very important beliefs that I hold myself.
