It's not an actual dire wolf... They edited the genes of a grey wolf to make it look like what the assume a dire wolf would look like. It's still a grey wolf as dire wolves aren't directly related to grey wolves. Soooo... Uhhh... Nature didn't find a way. Sorry. It's like making a human look like a chimp, it'd still be a human.
