Thoughts on Live Action Disney remakes

eternallunar1
So, no idea if this topic has been spread about but it's been on my mind for quite some time. It seems like nowadays Disney wants to remake all of the classic Disney films at this point. It first started with Cinderella, but then Pete's Dragon randomly got a live action film, then we've got The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Maleficent got her own film, and most recently Dumbo, Aladdin and The Lion King. Mulan's getting a remake in the next year and honestly I don't know what to think of it from the trailer alone that was revealed awhile back. Anyways, the only live action Disney films I've seen are 101 Dalmatians from the 90's, The Jungle Book and Aladdin. I never really cared for 101 Dalmatians personally and honestly found it not that great while lots of people loved it. The Jungle Book wasn't too bad of a remake. I thought the changes they made really worked in the end and it was one of the few Disney remakes that I enjoyed. (Christopher Walken as King Louie was the best part) The same for Aladdin, I was skeptical at first but Will Smith did a great job as Genie. He knew that he couldn't put as much cosmic energy Robin Williams gave to the character, yet it was his own thing and he could definitely sing. I can't speak upon the other films since I haven't seen them nor really have the desire to check them out, but I'm curious how everyone feels about Disney's Live Action films as a whole. Do you think Disney is becoming a cashcow by remaking all of their classic films? Or perhaps you are open minded and like some of the films that they have put out? I'd love to hear what other people think.

easy cash grabs sequels and reboots are nearly all cash grabs its a safer bet then making something new i saw the jungle book in theaters and i liked it, though they tweaked the plot so it wasnt as good (and yes christopher walkens singing 'i wanna walk like you' was the best part') aladdin looks as phoned in as it gets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pqX1WgswVU animation is limitless real life is limited

Oh I definitely agree that the live action version of Aladdin feels phoned in at times. I was let down by "A Whole new World" in particular. The singing just didn't sound as good as the original nor as magical. As for Prince Ali, I was honestly surprised because it sounded good in theaters compared to the youtube trailer which has a really slow tempo for whatever reason? It actually had a faster tempo that time but... it just still didn't live up to the original version. I was honestly hoping that Abu in Elephant form would bust through the Palace doors along with the many other animals/performers/servants. But I was disappointed. It's like you said, there's only so much you can do with real life while animation is without any boundary. But still, there was mostly good than bad at the end of it all despite my gripes with it.

Aladdin was good. Lion king was good. The only 2 I was interested in watching. Not really against it. Even if they are called cashgrabs, doesn't really matters to me the reason why they were made. It's a different experience, the movies I watched showed a lot work put into it (unlike some shitty sequels in the past) and I'm glad they exist. For me I guess they satisfy the same curiosity as seeing a well made cosplay. The "How would it look in real life?".

yeah i heard abu wasnt cute but just creepy xD i saw the trailer to the new lion king and i cant tell these lions apart they just look like lions honestly though im more pissed about the sequitous that disney's contagiously spread to pixar pixar stood on the grounds of "no sequels" until merging with disney wreck it ralph and incredibles two did not need to happen and added nothing to the overarching story the toy story franchise was just the same plot played over and over again

The main problem I can see from vague clips I've seen with the Lion King is that there isn't any emotions shown in the animals. I mean, it's probably not easy to capture emotion from animals in real life cause they don't show any. The original had Disney animation to its advantage where all of the animals had facial expressions. So yeah, I'm sorta iffy right now about it. Also, getting to the Live Action Mulan. If it does not have the best song in the movie "I'll make a man out of you" A Great Typhoon will be abrewin that much I will say. I haven't seen Mushu or the lucky cricket in the trailer(I have heard rumors that they're supposed to make a special appearance in the film but not as major characters), or the even three lovable goofs, but a least give us the greatest Disney song ever made. https://i.imgflip.com/36jnrh.jpg Me after seeing the movie http://www.quickmeme.com/img/5d/5d1ab9afb723b7013c1cb0c9c0d03d639619da0635eff251a79ad3889d347008.jpg I expected the live action Aladdin to be a flaming pile, but when a girl asks you to go see it, you don't say no. Turns out, it's a pretty entertaining movie and Will Smith actually kills it as the genie. Also, "I'll make a man out of you" as the greatest Disney song ever made... looooooooooooooooooooool no.

well, ok theres hope for mulan though theyr changing the dragon to a phoenix, apparently itll be following the lore more than the animated movie which is good, because the animated movie was found pretty offensive in china xD ok, i have an open mind with mulan i wouldnt mind see hunchback of notredame as long as they took the more serious route of the play @spacecadet https://media1.tenor.com/images/dc35ad13a048692ecd5d5de30ac28be4/tenor.gif?itemid=11974959 he was awful it didnt even look like he was trying, 0 energy he had such big shoes to fill and he didnt even try
