10 Billion dollars to change your country.

napalmamaterasu
I have two separate ideas what I'd do with the money. I'm not sure whether I'd split the 10 Billion into two 5 Billion ideas or use the whole 10B on one. I'm not sure how much this matters anyway to be honest. First idea is spurred by my most political issue of concern guns (in America particularly). I would start a civilian militia and call it ...wait for it... A WELL REGULATED MILITIA The well regulated militia will have rules and regulations to ensure it is in working order and functioning properly. The militia will also have regulations as to who can join and maintain membership in the militia. These regulations will be based heavily on already established prohibitions of persons who are by law banned from possession of guns (IE: felons and domestic abusers) with possible additions. In this fashion maximum Constitutional protections are ensured because it is both citizens of the United States (the people) and an organized militia. The militia will be funded initially by the initial capital investment but will further be funded by dues and donations from members and the public at large. If a member (or prospective member) cannot pay the monetary fee (or whatever term you want to use) a non-monetary method of payment can be accepted such as community service or hosting educational seminars on the militia and/or guns themselves. This militia is not meant to be a substitute for the police and formal military and it should never be drafted by its laws, code, or other documents to present as such. I suppose I could expand on this idea if enough interest is warranted or I feel the need or inspiration to do so.

I'd give it to someone who knows what they're doing. 1% is 100 million dollars so I'm lit off that.

My second idea would be a critical addition (in theory - and well since this forum/thread is all theoretical anyway that is good enough) to the political discourse in America which by all accounts (one of the few things bipartisan agreement is achieved) is fractured, broken and in great disrepair. I would with the money establish facilities that would facilitate understanding of "the other side" of a political debate or issue. I'm not sure what I'd call such facilities but I'll go with "Informed Dissent Centers" (IDC's for the rest of this post). An IDC shall be set up with the intent not to force people what to think but give them the tools to decide for themselves, or at minimum give a person the truest form of ideas and motivations from "the other side" of the aisle. There will be rules and other regulations set in place to ensure the neutrality of views and that each "side" gets equal treatment and exposure and is presented in the most true and least radicalized manner. This would be both in the content of the the "courses" and in the conduct of the people in the facilities. It will essentially be set up to answer the question "why do these people think X". These IDC's will be meant to dismantle harmful stereotypes and highly biased and ignorant views. It will be set up and function much like a college with elective "courses" that can be more general or quite specific. For example someone who wants to educate themselves more about the abortion debate can sign up for.... Abortion 101 - a very generalized discussion touching on Pro Life and Pro Choice stances, motivations and thought processes (essentially a cliffnotes version of the abortion debate) *This would be for people who either have no strong opinion one way or the other, aren't very well informed on the issue, or just want a surface level review of the issue Pro Choice 101 - This is meant to be a generalized (but more in depth than abortion 101) view of why people are pro choice (their motivations, thoughts and science on the matter) focusing on the access, process and other logistical and social aspects of abortions *This would be for PRO LIFERS (or an undecided person wanting to expand their knowledge of pro choice positions) to learn about why pro choice is appealing and what substantiates the appeal Instead of "they just want to murder babies" someone can hopefully see and learn that this is not the case and that there are real and reasonable reasons to have an abortion performed Pro Life 101 will invariably be an inverse to pro choice 101 where people who are undecided or lean pro choice can see why pro lifers feel and think the way they do that isn't "controlling women" or "patriarchy" Ideally people who are strongly set in their thoughts and stances would either not enter these facilities as there isn't much that can be said that would change their mind anyway or even better they would attend and grow an appreciation and respect for the other side. Although, my idea in its purest and natural form is simply informed dissent. The first step to solving an issue or "agreeing to disagree" is to have a mutual understanding of the facts and that is something that is severely lacking. Sometimes it is the case where one side has very little to no knowledge about the topic that is being debated. It would be much easier to "reach across the aisle" if the other side understood very basic things on the subject matter. People often (rightly so) dismiss the opinions of another on this very basis. IDC centers are a (theoretical) first step in solving the political and ideological divide. Coming together and learning non-radicalized or bigoted views on a topic makes it more palatable and tangible for people. People can see that people have these views in their own community instead of "way over there" which personalizes it (to some degree)

Well, First thing, is stick that 1% in a decent investment to make more money off of it. Next, give 1 billion to the wall, I won't be able to pay for nearly all of it, but that should help it start. Protecting our country's borders is important. Second, Make a news site, Nonprofit for myself, Where it's as nonbias as possible on the sources, Something our country, even daily world right now desperately needs. Make a few men's abuse shelters considering how few have in this country. With the rest I'd help build some cheap for upkeep, yet quality schools, Specifically with non-politically biased teachers. And spend the rest I can on Charities.

Hmm... I guess I'd probably use it to start a clean energy company, train a work force and pay them good wages. And I would try my best to poach workers like crazy from the coal and fossil fuel industries.

GNOMED. has an interesting idea. I'd develop a terraforming machine so humans can leave earth, thus alleviating overpopulation and the bad effects on nature.
