Ah.. just when I thought I was so close to understanding memes now all that confidence has gone out the window. I feel as though I understand even less than before. It's like anything can be a meme, but is it supposed to be funny? Most of them I don't even get. At first I thought it was potentially a reference to some form of popular media, but if that was the case that would just be called a reference or a joke, or both! Instead they are called memes and are not exactly references to popular media, from what I can see now memes can just literally be anything and I am seriously trying to comprehend how something can be classified while having no rules to it at all. This is a lot to take in.
