Now I am aware that "backwards thinking" has a negative connotation to it. But hear me out. So when I ask this I am basically asking if you look at data or a situation and draw conclusions from it(forward thinking) or are more prone to preemtively have a conclusion in mind and seek information that supports your position (backward thinking).
In either case you would be capable of ignoring information/nuance that would support an opposing viewpoint or weaken your own. I'm just asking how you prefer to approach things while forming an opinion and why?

Definitely prefer to take in new information, even if it contradicts my own. Thing is, even if I don't completely agree, I always come away with at least a new perspective. Besides, how can you expect to grow if you never want to be challenged? Information changes all the time, my right might be wrong and maybe by listening, I can pick up a better way of thinking or doing things. However, that does not mean I'm not stubborn or stuck in my ways on certain things.
It's like this, I find myself being easily frustrated, which I picked up from my dad, while growing up. I want to change, my wife insists that I change(Its not a major point of contention, yet. But, it need not be.) but it's a bit of a process to change and get rid of old things that were ingrained into myself while growing up. It's a thought process that stems from a selfish attitude and that's definitely hard to just get rid of, but I'm truly learning thanks to my wife just what patience is and should be. If I were to be hard headed and not want to change...Well, I can guarantee we would/will not last.

I'd like to think myself a forward thinker, albeit I'll admit I do tend to cast judgement fairly quickly on a few topics like religion and similar ideas.

I prefer to be a forward thinker and to have informed opinions. But all to often I find myself doing the opposite. I think more often we’re stuck in situations where we have to make judgments and come to conclusions with little information, and hope we don’t look the fool later. In that case you look for information that supports having that opinion. Nobody likes being wrong.
Backwards thinking means making assumptions. Assumptions are often wrong.

I'm a cold forward thinker. I draw logical conclusions of a situation before processing emotional stimuli. Sometimes I forget to throw in empathy into situations which could make me come off as seeming selfish.
