Well, considering that I need money to have something to eat, it's necessary, but I think it's more like a form of control created by the system to make people dependant so they have to work and consume to live and keep the wheel spinning. I see it like a pyramid with the 1% elite on top and we 99% in the bottom holding the structure, and money as the illusion of freedom used to keep us "happy".
Money means slavery.

I don't think money itself corrupts the family. It's really up to an individual's relationship with money that can corrupt. Take my family for example, my parents worked their way up from shitty jobs to a nice upper middle class setting and they're still striving for more, because they want us, my sister and her family, and me, to be ok in the future without them.
The same is true for me. I want to get a great job that'll pay great not just because I want more money for myself but because I want for my family, present and future, to be stable, healthy, and happy. I don't really see how that's somehow diminishing my family relationships

^ It seems like everyone in your family is sensible; I may just hang out with the wrong people or something, or maybe they're all too young.
@ Jinsei, I like that answer.

Money is a strange beast. I don't really know how to aptly put into words all of the problems that our current monetary system harbors, however, to summarize my opinion, I think money has proven its effectiveness to simplify trade globally in our world today, however, due to its increased importance as world trade has boomed, human behavior and culture has wrongly changed in such a way that it glorifies it's existence. Anything that can so easily sway the beliefs of a population as well as its nature, is inherently a threat to the well being of any society.

Something I don't really care about, but happen to really need. :P
I kinda wish I'd somehow miraculously win a million bucks. Not like I'd go on some kind of mad spending spree though. I'd put 700k in a savings account, divide 200k amongst relatives, and use the remaining 100k to pay off bills, get myself a nice new computer and buy some manga/anime related stuff with still plenty left.
But alas, in reality my income sucks. xD

Money is important but it should not be your only focus. That being said money is important and you really learn the value of it when you start to work and are solely responsible for yourself. Rent, Bills, Food, Clothes etc you can't live without them.
I am fortunate as I am financial secure and able to save / afford my current lifestyle but I know some people who are scraping the barrel to pay bills every month.

And all it takes is one volcano, one lil meteor or the sun deciding to go ape-shit and all the money in the world becomes valueless...

Something you earn by screwing other people over; the more you want the more you're going to hurt others to obtain it. It comes followed with power, fame and freedom. Controls all people's lives in this world, making everyone inside of the hands of just one single group. Destroys people's dignity but can also maintain those you hold dear. For me, best way to handle money is always striving to earn it for something else than yourself alone. To share it. That way is healthy for both your mind and soul.
