@alephy Well capitalism would dictate that random hood doctors and clinics could pop up all over the place and compete with the hospitals. They already exist for gang members and whatnot so that they can get treated without a hospital being involved and going directly to jail after being treated. No messy insurance, just drop some cash in front of them and they will treat you. Their rates are good too, I'd go to one if I knew where one was to make sure that I'm in good condition. Instead there are thousands of regulations and these hood doctors are arrested as soon as they are found.

Not all regulations are bad. You don't want a self taught surgeons doing open heart surgery. You want people that have the education and are trained in the field. You don't want any bum off the street saying "yeah I'm a doctor." Well prove it. Imagine zero regulation where anyone could become a doctor. I could become a doctor. I am certainly not qualified to be a doctor.

Well yes, but then we are going to specialist and surgical territory. I was speaking more on the general practitioner level. There is a need for certified members of surgery and specialists. However at a general practitioner level I don't see why somebody can do it that knows what they are doing. The only thing that a doctor can do that one of the hood doctors can't is write prescriptions. But I think that one of the reasons that hood doctors are good at what they do is partially because they have large gangs breathing down their necks and they have to be good, or else.

I would say that the rate for APPs/Midlevels (Nurse Practitioners and Physician's Assistants) are more fair. Their pay fluctuates based on facility volume as well but their averages are anywhere from $70-130 per hour. The higher paid ones of course working Emergency Medicine then followed by Urgent Care, then Hospital Medicine, then Family Medicine. Still pretty inflated but they are literrally doing the work of a provider who has gone all the way through medical school and residency. Exceeding $200 is capitalism bending lady liberty over.
