That's awesome! I hope the issues have settled down a bit between your friend and his interest (especially if you're staying over) :)

if you will be staying around tokyo i guess my top 5 would be 1 - Yoyogi park very fun and chill place to see some funny hipsters, also has alot of concerts and just subculture in general :) 2 - Odaiba artificial island next to tokyo, u can ride the train AKA subway to here, this is where the giant gundam is :D alot of stuff to to around here like restaurants and shopping complexes. 3 - Shimbashi this is a LOL place, if u are looking for a place to get drunk with some shady salary men, who often are very generous and funny tho :D this is the place to be ;) 4 -Akihabara OFCOURSE FOR SHOPPING WOHOOO NOTHING ELSE TO SAY :D Akihabara is otaku paradise. It's the best place in Tokyo to find electronics, anime and manga. It's possible to find obscure items in Akihabara such as robot parts. 5 - Tokyo Tower just for the sheer sightseeing :D most popular place in tokyo i guess, always crowded, just for the sake of being a tourist i guess :D

I'll do the second for sure, but I can't comment on buying 'new anime'. For one, I hate cliffhangers and waiting time, thus I always wait for a series to end before watching it, except for mainstream ones, which I watch per season. Second, I'm mostly going there to sight-see rather than gaming and anime.
