I am naturally a quiet person. One thing I do is let my mind wander and contemplate things that have happened in my day that coincide with what the other person is talking about. This happens pretty naturally but I *must* remember to act on it. Keep the conversation going. Also, a healthy curiosity for other people is paramount. People love to talk about themselves.
