I just completed Chapter 1 of my first original manuscript in English. I'm now officially looking for beta readers. Anyone who is brutally honest and knows a good manga. PM me for details.

Oh yes. This particular style is called Séo Nós and is quite indicative of the southwestern region where I was born. :)

wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying It's very beautiful. It always sounds so magical and stuff when I hear Irish/Scottish music
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora It's why music is such a big part of how Ires bond. There's nothing more heartwarming than a jam session at the pub. Even as small as I was I remember the warmth, the camaraderie, and the sense of community built around those moments. <3
criselington
Pete Zahut @criselington Well, it seems you have to teach her rattlin bog and sing together
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Been trying to get some sea chanties going. I'm still working on testing my window for acoustic value. Do ye happen to know the Wellerman?(I'm still learning it in English, but I know it in Irish!)
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying I'm happy you were able to have fun when younger, remembering the happiness and the warmth of it all. I don't have any specific childhood songs I remember, my family and I just shouted random songs for the heck of it XD
criselington
Pete Zahut @criselington I do, I know many songs and artist since I pretty much listen to pretty much anything mostly 40s-60s but. Y'all need to work on your shanty and pub songs and sing together it seems
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Hnhn. I have BandLab and StarMaker. So I can layer music. I may as well test that today when I have time. I've been putting it off with a bunch of other projects I'm working on.
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Finally tested it. Standing roughly 8-10 inches does improve the sound a little. I could hear myself better and the tone did improve but I'd say only a little. I still had to add 10% reverb and 30% "room size" in after effects.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying That's cool! Do you think if I manage to do it that a weird window frame will effect it?
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Not likely. It's the material that creates the effect. Glass is good for reverb, so that's why it works. As long as it's a glass window with an inside sill, it should work. A bay window would probably work better. But I don't have one of those.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying It's okay. I don't have a bay window rn either XD
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Hn. Test out your best house window and let me know how it goes so we can proceed. Ideally use as few after effects as possible to get the clearest sound. I can add the after effects to the audio file once I have it.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying I'll see when I can. There really is no space in the house for anything, but hopefully this week or something I can find a way
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora I understand. Maybe one of your siblings will join you? lolol. The more the merrier! XD
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying No, they are just as nervous to sing in front of me or the rest of our family as I am XD. I do find it easier to sing in front of certain siblings, but I don't like singing in front of them really XD
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Aw! Now's a great time to be a brave little toaster! It's a sea chanty. They make you brave. I'd start, but it'll be easier for me to harmonize, since your range is lower than mine.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying But I'm not a brave little toaster...I'm a easily breakable little egg more like it XD (I'm joking)
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Uwa. If you drank, I'd say you just need more whiskey(since whiskey makes you brave). What do not pirates be drinking? XD
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying But I don't drink...so I think we ran into some trouble there XD. Maybe some spicy food will make me brave XD, maybe some motivation with strawberry milk perhaps?
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Oh hell yes! Have you ever had peach milk?! But yes, I recall that you didn't drink. For some reason I struggle remembering names but not random preferences. XD
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying I didn't even know they had peach milk! I want to try every flavor of milk they have out in the world lol. I have had chocolate (of course), regular (of course), vanilla flavor, strawberry and pumpkin (I think my two favorites are strawberry and pumpkin). Same here! I tend to have an issue remembering names as well, but I tend to remember things people like to eat or their hobbies/interests easier because they like them and I guess I want to make them happy? XD
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Ooo. I haven't had pumpkin milk. I've had banana milk before. It's better to make it yourself, though. I can't stand that artificial flavor. :x I wish there was a convention specifically for MO. There's a lot of people who are too much fun to not share hot pot with.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying In the past I know that MO members have planned outings together. The only issue with that nowadays with MO is that most members are barely online, too busy with life or they can't afford to come to a meet up. I think I'd be down for going out with some MO members here if we could all do it. And I want to try banana milk so badly! I don't like eating bananas but themselves, but I love banana flavored things. I also want to try making flavored milk myself as well. Oh! And the only milk I haven't tried (willingly) yet is mint flavored, it's cause I hate mint XD
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Oh, yeah. Mint milk seems a bit much for me too. But maybe peach mint would be good. I tend to make my own strawberry milk. It's been a while though since it can take some time and effort. Peach milk is my favorite though. Especially almond milk base with a hint of vanilla bean. On a hot summer day it just hits like ice cream without the brain freeze.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying That sounds like it tastes good. Maybe I should try making that almond/vanilla milk since my mom has been getting almond milk more lately
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Oh yes. It may not be great in savory foods, but in sweet things and things that taste good with nuttiness it's amazing. With cinnamon rolls, spice cake, milk tea, etc.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying I actually like almond milk, but maybe it's because I actually like almonds as well. I actually like every nut I've tasted
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Hnhn. Same. Though I am deathly allergic to walnuts and pecans for some reason now. If I was allergic to them any sooner and I would've died from starvation years ago. It was all that I had ready access to. I will have to say, I don't care for oat milk, most of the time. They always put some kinda oil in it and that's all you taste. :x Have you ever had cashew milk?
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying Oh no! That's horrible! Pecans and walnuts taste so good though. I don't think I've ever had cashew milk or even oat milk for that matter? Or maybe I did have oat milk? I remember our mom making her own milk for cereal and whatever, I remember it being a bit odd but at the same time enjoyable (the way she made it didn't have any weird oils either)

I hope you're able to watch this. It's very catchy https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8bCp2SJ/
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Love it! That's a good one. My dad liked that one especially, since instead of civvies ready means get your civilian clothes ready for strolling the docks. My nan hated that line, so it was my dad being a rebellious little shit. XD
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying Why did your nan hate that line? XD
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Because it insinuates one if going out bar hopping and to brothels.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying Ah, that makes sense XD. Did she give him a mean death glare whenever he sang it?
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora He'd get to that part and she'd glare. He'd sing it extra loud, she'd slap him with the infamous 'spúnóg adhmaid' The Irish equivalent of Chancla. I never knew as a child what it meant, but had it explained to me by a friend some years ago. There's a more crude version, though where Civvies is Skivvies, which means panties. lolol
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying That's funny XD. I can just imagine a slipper flying across the room to hit him XD

The fieries are too laid back to fight like that. But other kinds tied to Morrígan(the goddess of war and death) might. Especially for someone like the Behemoth Bramble, who is almost like a saint to faeries of the woodlands. As far as genocide... what do you mean?

I read the questions... But is genocide an option? Just curious. I mean just look at im, he's ready for that smoke.

I don't know if I remember how it was said, but there's a saying in Irish "Coinníonn cloigíní iarainn na cinn ghránna as" Something like "Iron bells keep the sly ones off" It's why some family have a habit of sticking bells over their doors to make sure no one who walks through it is there uninvited, like a faerie with exception to brùnaidh.

Just a note for those who picked the rust chair. As Yuuzo stated briefly, fae have a weakness to metalic objects. It isn't just fae. All etheric beings have that weakness. In the etheric spectrum, iron has a habit of collapsing patterns of etheric energy. (We use it in occultism a lot for that reason.) Meaning it works against ghosts as well. (That includes folkloric vampires, who did not have a physical body. Closer to the real thing.) The thing is, hitting a ghost or demon with iron will just send them back to their 'spawn point' (Their body, or astral space) when they reform. With fae, it will downright kill them. Since they're the true etheric natives. Demons and humans simply overlap into the etheric, metaphysically speaking. The question you need to ask is how the hell did they get a metalic object in the etheric spectrum to begin with? Maybe it's just been made to look like iron. Or maybe it is, and you aren't in your physical body anymore. In which case, you will be inconvenienced. There's layers to these things. Likewise, in regards to the offerings of the fae, be particularly weary of wheat, or anything made from it. It will prevent you from ever getting back, because you will be grounded to their world. The same thing (Allegedly) happens if they eat our wheat.
chocopyro
Chocopyro @chocopyro Yeah, thing about folklore is, it's an effective way to preserve a lot of esoteric lore. Real fae of course don't entirely match 1 to 1 with mythology and folk belief. Still, it's not based on nothing. Sometimes superstition of later years pile up the distortions in what may have been practical advice, and a lot of things are based on a flat out lie, But take a look at this video. Know that his target audience are those in the practice. Notice how the subject matter is treated. Like they've already accepted that they're real, and that magicians bump into them on occasion. They need it with the superstition removed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scRdZkjNyCg&t

Uuuuu, your voice is just fine. Especially trying not to draw too much attention. Though the reverb is a bit bendy. Are you recording in a bathroom?
wei_ying
I'm not a singer...so I'm sorry this sounds horrid XD. It didn't help I was nervous when recording this either and excuse any weird microphone sounds (Edit: And I'm sorry Yuu-chan that it's not on a proper karaoke site. I didn't want my family to hear me singing a full blown song XD) >w< https://voca.ro/12E46XHZXhvF
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying Nope, I was in my room. I was using an app for the echo effect, and thank you! You're too kind about my voice XD, yours is really pretty as well
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Ah, I can understand. I use a bit of reverb also just to make up for the flat acoustics. Is there any songs you want to try together? I can splice them or maybe we can harass one of the others on here to do it for us. >) Do you know any sea chanties? I think I know a few hymns but they're either in Irish or Latin.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying I only know a bit of the Wellerman song, but I can easily learn that. I don't listen to music much so I'm sorry I don't have many options D':
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Ooo, the Wellerman is a good one. I'm still learning it in English. So we can learn together. What's your range. From what I heard you might be lyrical alto. I'm a lyrical soprano. :)
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying I don't know my range? I don't pay attention when I sing XD
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying And I don't know voices like that and how to tell what I fall in
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora I can help there. The basics is that SATB is the range of singers from Soprano(very high, usually women) Alto(high mid, usually women) Tenor(Mid low, usually men) and Bass(low, usually men). The lyrical and coloratura are the flow of a person's voice. Lyrical is more to flow, 'flitting like a butterfly' and coloratura is more solid like a stream of water. :)
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying Ah? Then is lyrical alto a specific type of alto or what? I don't know how to word it, I'm sorry XD
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Yup. Lyrical alto is a low female voice that has a light tone. The beauty of sea chanties is you can sing any part you want. So you can sing what you know first and I can harmonize if you feel comfortable with that. I've been working on translating the Wellerman, oddly Wellerman is the way Ires and Cockneys say "Whaler men". XD
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying Woah, that's so interesting! You know some stuff about music, did you grow up with it a lot? And if I am a lyrical alto, does that mean my voice does better with lower notes or what? I'll try to find time to sing somewhere in my house (hopefully) and I need to read up on the Wellerman. Do you want me (if I'm able to get to it) to add a little beat with my hand? Like thump on something or will the music be added later on?
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora You don't have to, but if it'll help you, that will be okay. As both Irish and Japanese, both those groups have strong roots to music steeped in the culture. Irish people have great rhythm and Japanese have good 'tonality' Lower notes are usually more comfortable for altos. So basically the part sung by the rest of the crew is going to be alto. You can sing whichever solos you want. I like them all, so it won't matter to me. The beauty of sea chanties is they're super loose and easy to have fun with.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying I want to try and do it, it's just my house is sadly not big enough to sing anywhere quiet or private XD, but I'll try to find space and record a few lines or something? Heck I can even sing the whole song and you can take away or add something to it (if that's possible?) And that's such a beautifully interesting mix you have ^^, I meant to tell you my eldest sisters said you sounded beautiful when I described you once in passing
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora E. I can at least sing in tune, though my rhythm isn't great. But we can do just a small portion or you can split the song in half. I'll probably end up recording in my car when it gets a little warmer. Even in there is better acoustics than my house. lol. I'm lucky I live on a quiet street.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying I'd say I live somewhere quiet...but if it's not my family and I being loud it's definitely the gunshots and sirens XD. It's okay, Yuu-chan, I feel like my rhythm and tuning is off lol, I think you do really well from what I heard
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora Your tuning sounded fine, it was more the acoustics. It's why you felt you had to add so much reverb. You want to try finding that reverb naturally. Basically any room or space with enough smooth/non porous surface like tile or wood. The sound bounces so you can hear yourself and sing more in tune.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying Ah, I see. My house is funky shaped anyhow...so maybe that doesn't help anything either? XD
yuuzora
yuuzora @yuuzora I'm gonna run experiment tonight recording in front of my window. I've heard the reverb is not too bad if you sing close to a closed window. I'll let you know how it goes.
wei_ying
Forgetful Mommy ® @wei_ying Okay, Yuu-chan, thank you!
