This fact is sad and fascinating. https://wx4.sinaimg.cn/mw690/87d788b2gy1frk6l4vckwj20fr0goac3.jpg
burninghalo
BurningHalo @burninghalo Learned about this from the dictionary of obscure sorrows. Which is odd because I don't see how thos could be considered sad? Care to elaborate?
hakutaku
Lishifu @hakutaku Because we realize that we are infinitely small and impermanent within the scheme of things.
burninghalo
BurningHalo @burninghalo Someone needs to watch one pumch man
burninghalo
BurningHalo @burninghalo Well if you spend your time seeing your mortality and impermanence as a negative then surely being reminded of it in any measure would sadden you. You want to live but hold the knowledge that eventually you'll die. Sucks. But understanding that billions of people all around you have vastly complex stories, feelings, and experiences that are richly unique is something that should be celebrated. All of that is meant to preface what I'm about to say. To know everyone and everything wholly and completely would be rather boring. Hence the OPM comment. Saitama expresses an almost existential pain about being so strong that no one and nothing challenges him. I liken his physical strength to the sort of omnipresence one would need to be a part of everyone's life. And to that end I'd reach the same conclusion...it would be boring as hell
burninghalo
BurningHalo @burninghalo Bear with me as I liken life to a video game... IF life were but a game, to live a life without sonder would be to start the game maxed out and completed all stories and tasks presented. But the fact that there are so many different people and experiences...perspectives, and journeys within a finite existence means that you are always able to grow, change, learn and do new things. To be complete is to be done. But for most people until they draw that last breath they can always keep playing. Find something new. Level up so to speak. Ya get me?
hakutaku
Lishifu @hakutaku It reminds me of "独孤求败" :D.
burninghalo
BurningHalo @burninghalo Mind translating? O.o
hakutaku
Lishifu @hakutaku "lonely at the top"(高处不胜寒)
burninghalo

Hey Enki, how would you say "meme" if you are talking/writing on chinese? Do you simply say the english word?
hakutaku
Lishifu @hakutaku We don't have an equivalent for "meme" in Chinese. In my opinion, this word can be translated as "表情包"(Meme and 表情包 are alike...).
whispywoods
Whisp @whispywoods Searching 表情包 on google was...interesting, to say the least. lol
whispywoods
Whisp @whispywoods My question started because I was curious how the chinese language deal with foreign words, since only kanji is used. So I was looking that.
hakutaku
Lishifu @hakutaku Yeah.We have to use kanji/Chinese characters to deal with foreign words.Foreignizing translation is used when there is no equivalent for certain words in Chinese. I made a comparison among Chinese translations of Faust made by four famous translators...Interestingly enough, four translators respectively chose different kanji to represent characters' names...To tell the truth, I found it somewhat confusing when a character has so many "names" in Chinese...
whispywoods
Whisp @whispywoods Kanjis make the chinese language look intimidating, but I'm sure learning to speak is much easier than writing.

PucaetGniliasEht @thesailingteacup Ghandi, because women meant dirt in all the other time periods, and cleopatria would not have wanted another clever pretty girl around.... Ghandi at least would be chill and make sure no harm comes to you! Plus I could use some help with meditation! :P
chocopyro
Chocopyro @chocopyro Ghandi too... Although Boudicca is one of my personal heroes, and Cyrus sounds like he coulda been pretty fun to talk to on an intellectual level.
thesailingteacup
PucaetGniliasEht @thesailingteacup Yeah, I was going to choose cyrus at first, until I realized he'd make me his bitch bc I have blonde hair and blue eyes.... tho we'd make some pretty persian babies :P
