Morning Beautiful People of MO

Are anti-heroes often misunderstood as villains? What about anti-villains?
gabriel_true
Anti-heroes are not villains. They are heroes that do not perform traditional roles expected of the hero archetype. https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/My-Hero-Academia-Hero-Killer-Stain.jpg They may appear morally gray, however that character will ultimately still fulfill the duty of a hero. If they go outside the rules of their society then generally it will be shown that the end result justified the means. That character may also still be held accountable for their bad decisions with opportunities for redemption to show how that character is at their root good. https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/My-Hero-Academia-Gentle-Criminal-header.png In the case of an anti-villain they will still perform actions that jeopardize their community. The only caveat being that in their pursuit they may align with orderly or heroic characters believing their end goals to be morally just. The story may even promote the anti-villain doing something that consequently benefits society on some level making it difficult to deny that villain is entirely corrupt or without method to their madness. In the end both anti characters will result in a good or bad outcome. The question lies in their methods of acquiring said end.
