My view is to follow the law as long as it protects the rights of the individual. This would mean upholding the second amendment, and article one section eight to thier original intent and purpose which at the time was guarding people against any future American government that might decide freedom is unnecessary and wish to do away with it. Regardless of how likely it is you would have to be ignorant to think that the American government is beyond acts of tyranny. (It proves it is not every day) Someone with even the faintest understanding of history would know that no government is truly unique, only the people.
good subject I think there sood be a more strict view on gun ownership, we don't need guns, look at japan and England, theyr doing just fine without guns flooding everywhere its in our constitution to give us the right, but they cood alwas make it more difficult by widening the wait time and doing much more detailed background check as Homer said "three days!? but im angry now!"
and also have no guns allowed at public events, and maybe even having strictest gun laws in states like DC (maybe that's too much). and being stricter on the illegal sale of guns. also not making heavy arms available, I don't see the point of someone owning a sniper rifle (maybe for a collector they cood have documentation of working hard with forms to get one, like with an exotic animal) handguns being even looser, but hunting rifles letting it be the easiest to get (but easy not being a good word cuz itll still be a long time)
I definitely agree on a more thorough background check and maybe even some kind of psychological evaluation. I own a handgun and going to the shooting range is one of the most relaxing things for me haha. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngsKzdKNAmo
Well thing about gun laws is the people killing folks with guns are the ones that no matter what laws ya put in place they are gonna get a gun regardless *for most part* But I agree there def needs to be a better more consistent screening process and for store that sell guns to have a more closely viewed process before they get permits to sell said weapons. Unfortunately I do not think more laws will help because it seems there is always a way to obtain a weapon for those who want it badly enough.
To expand on what Talamar said.... Chicago has unbelievably tough gun laws. Great Britain outright banned them and is considered the most violent nation in the EU and has more crimes per capita than the USA. (By a lot) A lot of people who want to ban assault rifles are often ignorant of the fact that hand guns kill a heck of a lot more. Also few people even know what an assault rifle is. I can turn any rifle into an assault rifle in minutes, it is a rifle..... with a pistol grip. So banning them is just outright stupid, all you have to do is add the pistol grip yourself.
I believe people should be allowed to own guns that are for self defense, but not like super huge outrageous guns that are just too much. If we banned guns, then that would leave all the people who could've owned guns for self protection completely vulnerable to those bad people (who are going to find a way to illegally get their hands on guns anyways). So all in all bad people will find ways to get possession of guns whatever the case, so we should let those who actually want to use it for self-defense without anything.
On another note; I think there should be a waayy more thorough background check. D:

but japans still safe and sound with no guns :D!
This is not per capita
If you go by per capita then the UK is far more violent and crime riddled.
In other words there is ZERO proof that gun control works other than teaching people how to fire one.
Switzerland has the lowest crime rate in the world..... they also ARM thier citizens.http://libertycrier.com/why-switzerland-has-the-lowest-crime-rate-in-the-world/
