The effect is temporary. The scientists were not measuring how many inches participants grew during puberty blocker use. All they were measuring is if puberty was delayed while using the drug and if puberty resumed once it was discontinued. What we DO know is that the epiphyseal plate only closes once puberty is complete. I bet ya they stumbled upon it when they found out bones were getting brittle for the participants of puberty blockers. Bones need calcium to strengthen itself for most of our lifetime, but we also need calcium for bones to get longer while we are young. That's probably how they found the reason for brittle bones, the participants were significantly taller after they sorted out the data in terms of age, race and parents.

Word. These studies are massive money pits, but the things we learn are priceless. I mean, just look at electricity. The amount of learning they had to do to make it to what we enjoy now. I can't go to specifics for I am not familiar with science of electricity, but the amount of studies they had to do to figure out what the fuck is lightning and how to harness it, if direct current is better than alternating current, positive vs negative currents, how to measure electric charge, how the fuck do you use electricity for human use....thats a lot of trial and error and experiments to make it more efficient. I bet ya it was mostly trial and error. The scientific method help organize what worked and what doesn't. Pushed out those who are a bunch of cons and quack doctors.
