What do you think about your country's gun laws?

gabriel_true
"Flamethrowers?" @laffantion Haha, no one in my state that I am aware of has a military grade flamethrower. Hell, even my uncle Texas can't get one of those. However if you want a cheap flamethrower, take any aerosol can and hold it up to a lighter.

Or you could go full redneck and fill a pump action water gun with kerosene and attach a zippo to the end

There is a point to having firearms. I carry because there is always the chance it might make the difference between life or death. -- I can wait for the police but if the guy pointing the gun at me is already in my face what is the point? -- Yes I will have to answer for taking a life, but that is what the justice system is for. Plus if everyone is carrying a fire arm the chance anyone wants to pull goes down. -- Notice all mass shootings take place with unarmed combatants. When the field is even it doesn't happen nearly as often. -- I would like to hear about all the gun ranges that are being targeted, but my guess is the guy that tries doesn't go too far. -- Alternatively we can preach to the choir and have all law abiding citizens forfeit their right of self protection, but the reality is the ones committing crimes won't listen. They are naturally suicidal and won't listen to reason or logic. They will find a way to get what they need from other countries if they have too. -- All a gun restricting law will do is give the violent criminals easier targets. -- Not to mention the black market for illegal weaponry will become a more successful and lucrative operation. You'll get more junky, desperate teens being recruited by gangs to move firearms into restricted states and that will be the new buzz on all the local news channels. -- "Why is little Tim a gun mule for the mob?" "How did all these illegal, 3D printed pistols, get to be a more rampant problem?" "Why are the police refusing to stop violent shooters because they themselves no longer have the means to do so?" -- Ultimately, is there any consistent law with enforcement that can deliver incorruptible justice without depending on the checks and balances of its own people? -- Any individual or government that has all the power to decide is less likely to properly enforce or protect its own citizens. I mean why should they? You can't stop them now. They have complete control over all the weaponry! They are what they are. Urban areas tend to need more control, rural areas need less of it, and also really fucking need to understand no one is out to steel their guns. The libs make way too much money off of arms sales, and every-time Obama even mentioned it gun control, bam. Instant military surplus cash. Fricken corporatists who run on progressive ideals...

Well in the US you don't have blanket gun laws across everywhere. There are federal regulations on short barrel rifles, short barrel shotguns, automatic weaponry, rifles with a bore size above 12.7mm with a bunch of exceptions for big game applications and of course explosives and other ordnance. Everything can be purchased or build with the right federal approval since you might be a firearms or explosives manufacturer. However it is virtually impossible to have legal explosives and automatic weaponry without being a gun shop owner or manufacturer. As far as my state goes, they pretty much let you do whatever as far as firearms go. I can go to the flea market and pick up revolvers and rifles. In fact the guy that sets up next to my booth at the flea market is going to sell me a 440 round spam can of 7.62x54R ammunition. He was selling a bunch of .22 plinkers and a .30-30 lever action last week. The interesting thing is that despite it being a firearm free-for-all, NH was the safest state in the US for 2019. Waiting for 2020 results, but we are doing very good so far. For NH this works perfectly, but gun violence in areas such as NYC and Detroit the issue is far bigger than firearms themselves. Usually it is people who are poorly educated and driven to a life of crime that are causing the troubles. So even if we were to snap our fingers and make guns disappear, they would still be killing each other over territory and disagreements with blades, cars, explosives, etc. I think the main issue is the quality of education and ability to advance in the workforce in these areas.

You're partially right, but I feel like you misunderstand the nature of gun crimes in the inner cities. It paints kinda a flawed picture to say its stupidity or that its crime ridden environment. Not saying that this is what you were implying, but I heard that said often as an excuse to oppress black communities for a long time. Hell, I remember living in a predominantly black community in Columbus for a few years, and well, we only really saw crime when the cops were around. Otherwise, safest neighborhood ever. I think its more in relation to fear and anxiety than it is intellect or educational level.

@chocopyro I will use NH as an example here. I live in Manchester which has the highest concentration of poor and crime in NH. One thing that is very important to note is that the schools in the more impoverished areas are lacking in quality over those in surrounding cities. It's not that education doesn't exist, it's that it has awful teachers that can't be fired and they have a tendency to throw money at the problem and yet it remains. When you don't have quality education that can lead you to getting a high SAT score or even decent problem solving skills that is going to impact your hireablility by businesses. One major advantage that Manchester has over places like Detroit, NYC or a bunch of other larger cities is the relatively low property value in these areas. You can start up your own business like a corner store, clothing store, barber shop, or whatever you want to set up. I think it has a lot more with giving people opportunity rather than anything else. Block them in a corner with no way out, don't be surprised if they lash out.
