A place to discuss gun politics across different countries.
On Mexico, you can get a gun almost anywhere through backhanded means and the black market, however most of these are contraband from the US and very low caliber guns, there's also a high chance you get killed/kidnapped in the acquisition process since you'll be dealing with criminals.
On the lawful side, getting a gun it's a chore, you're required to have approval from the Mexican army, training and lots of psychological checks, then, the caliber of guns you're allowed to purchase are all of limited firepower.
This, to prevent, a scenario where the people can start an uprising against the government and overthrow it, since the military will always have the cool toys.
Mexican laws are also kinda stupid regarding gun usage, if you get a trespasser on your own home, you need to assess first what his intentions are, record them, warn him, and wait until a hostile reaction before you can shot, ideally, you need to be shot first and record the event, before you can shoot him.
Shooting him also means you need to do it in a way you won't kill him, nor injure him for more than 15 days, or else you'll have to pay him a fee of cash, if you invalidate him for life, you'll need to cover his life expenses until his death.
If you kill him, you go to prison, regardless of circumstances, even if the burglar raped your family, then systematically murdered them and then placed 3 bullets on your body, you go to jail.

My country restricts guns and we have an enormous death toll (60.000) per year... couple that with a completely lenient criminal code.
But just lifting those restrictions wouldn't change it that much ngl. They shouldn't be a thing to begin with.

better monitoring of gun owners
in canada they have a law (or whatever) that if someone, they could be a random person, says that your having a mental break down and your on the gun owners registry then they come to your home, take your guns for a period of time and talk to you to understand your current mental status
I also think you should have to take firearm classes on gun safety and pass them before you can own a gun, kinda like driving classes, but idk if any country enforces that

I do have seen that in the US there's an awful quantity of accidents regarding guns and minors, for example that case of that girl who shot down an instructor with a SMG on a shooting range

I hope they never bring a law like that into the U.S.
--
If someone can, for any reason, have the government detain an individual for owning a self defense weapon because they "thought" you were not trustworthy, it would be a disaster.
--
Also keep in mind no one knows who is going to commit a mass shooting until it happens. People can suspect, but most can't reliably profile. I mean if people are protesting the police in America for failing to properly identify dangerous criminals than can I really trust my neighbor to do it either?
--
Some countries that do are far worse than the United States. Be lucky America records our problems to begin with. So many other countries restrict the flow of information to make it seem they are pleasant communities.
--
Then they have death camps ran by the government to "rehabilitate" those in need of reforment only to put them into slavery for the "betterment" of society.
--
I would much rather take my chances in the wild west than let an overpaid corporation decide my fate in life.
--
The answer to violence in any country is for parents to honestly love their children and educate them properly. The government can't nor realistically should be the one's to do that for society.
--
People have been at war since the beginning. Even by today's news we are in a far better position to protect ourselves and stay informed than kingdoms of old.
--
Get rid of guns and people will make new weapons to harm themselves. It is only a matter of time.

I can attest to that partially, Mexico has an extreme death toll yearly and it's mainly because of people ignorance, poverty and lack of education

its a bit too expensive and takes too long with the lessons you have to take to get a license here otherwise its all pretty good in germany. You can get guns in any caliber if it is not fully automatic, can't get flamethrowers like in the united states though.
