@forgetmenot Funny you mention the Nain Rouge, that's actually one of my favorite beings to research. Like you said, some American cities have plenty of cross pollination with France. In Detroit in particular (Founded by one Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac), Their's is called "The Detroit devil" I know exactly how disturbing the folklore gets, but in Detroit, they are more of an urban legend than folklore. A lot of people claim to encounter them, and belief in them is pretty important to the city's history. DEFINITELY an interesting one. Been tempted to go on my own investigations. Now the Wendigo, that one is also interesting. Like the Nain Rouge, they are most likely of the fae. A lot of the native american fae in indigenous legend (Puckwudgie, wendigos, wood devils) have far more in common with European folklore before everything got watered down to sprites and pixies. And as you could tell through looking at them individually, these aren't nice creatures.
