After dragging myself over during a downpour to sit alone in an empty theater to watch Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny I will say it was better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but only slightly.

Where I think 5 did better was at least giving a compelling villain for Dr. Jones to face off against. It was a tired trope for the bad guys being German Nazis again, however I'll remember their motivations more than I did the random Russian lady who wanted an alien skull thing, haha! Like what did she plan on doing with that power?
As for 4, the best thing about its story was that it tried to give something different while introducing a future Jones protege. Too bad I didn't like the son, heh. I don't know who is worse, the goddaughter or the illegitimate bastard child? Both were insufferable in their own unique ways. My biggest gripe with both were that each of them seemed self centered. The son was more or less incompetent while the daughter was just morally bad as well as prideful to boot!

Temple of Doom appeared to have a less compelling narrative compared to Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade with its villain bordering on cartoonishly sinister. That said I found it exciting to watch with its many fun action sequences. The temple was a cool location too. I feel that the future films after Doom simply copy pasted that backdrop setting which made them less unique.

Last Crusade and Raiders of the Lost Ark will always be the foundation of Peak Indiana Jones adventure! Nothing is perfect, but they got fairly close in capturing the spirit of cool without being overly obnoxious or self indulgent. Maybe the male leads were imperfect at times, yet they weren't simply saving the day only for themselves unlike a certain goddaughter in 5.

Definitely agree with the last crusade and the only Indiana Jones movies are the original three. Period.

To be honest the movie hat appeared to have a shorter brim than mine.
