Women and video games

Funny thing relating to women and gaming. I went to my local gamestop for midnight release of Assassin's Creed 3 and while in line, guys kept asking me what I was there for. When I say I'm there to pick up AC, they then immediately follow up with either, you (said incredulioiusly) play assassin's creed? or if I had a brother. They did a AC trivia for giftcards where in I was the only girl and shocked all the guys by both beating to the punch and then answering the questions right (pub trivia night training for the win!). That was really the first time I ever had lightly applied sexism haappen to me in regards to gaming. It's a weird and surreal feeling

I'm indifferent about women playing games. I really don't see what the big deal is over females that pick up sticks that make guys look like they found a great white unicorn. So what if she can put over hundreds of hours into Fallout, Skyrim, Left 4 Dead, or some Bioware game? I've dated some female gamers over the years and it's no different than getting a buddy in some co-op action or another opponent to smash into the ground. Whatever the fantasy about gamer girls, I can assure you in reality it is nothing special.

It's possible that they're there, only hiding? The only time someone can possibly guess I am female while gaming is either in Halo (where my spartan is female) and if I speak (which I never do unless I am in a party ). I don't let my gender be known otherwise because it doesn't matter. I'm a gamer. All I want to do is take down everyone else and be on the top of the score board.

sbjasbda omg people. Girls who game aren't rare! They game all the time, just usually not the stuff you're into? I know lots of 'mainstream' girls who game but its casual like 'I gotta check my farmville!' casual. But it IS still gaming. Don't debate me on this. It's a game, they play it, they're gaming. I guess I'm really headstrong about this is because I'm majoring in Game Art and Design? Not only to I love to play Skyrim and Guild Wars 2, I want to intern for Bethesda and ArenaNet. I don't get to play all the time because obviously gaming isn't my life, i have college and family. And oddly enough I've met many guys who basically have told me that if I don't game 24/7 I'm not a real gamer? If I'm not pro at everything I'm just a poser? And yet he and his bros gets let off easy like 'naw I cant game tonight I'm gonna watcha movie'. Personally from what I've witnessed in my life I feel girls are just more scrutinized with certain things? I dunno, maybe I'm blowing it out of proportion. But I can safely tell you that there ARE gamer girls. They're just not YOUR ideal gamer girl. Many gamers are right under your nose and you never know it. Like I have a fashion design friend who screams with me when we destroy the other team in TF2 as a duo team of Doctor and Heavy. Who woulda thunk y'know? They're out there, you just actually have to look. :D

I tend to avoid conversations like this because Im pretty much an equal rights for all kinda guy. I would rather not think about any kind of divide because I dont see the point. People should just do whatever makes them happy. This is how I see it (Ive only read the OP and whatevers on this page. I didnt want to read 15 pages worth so apologies if Im just repeating someone else...). There are lots of gamer girls, most just choose to hide their identity online for obvious reasons. Ive seen far too many times what happens when a nice girl reveals her gender online and quits because of abuse and I really hate it. Ive lost a couple of good friends that way... For those not online, there are also lots of gamer girls. But how would you know if they only play single player games at home and dont go out of their way to talk about it? Me, I have a weakness for girls who game. Its nice to be able to work together in some games. Its a good way of getting to know each other better. If you work well together then its a good sign for if you end up together. If its against each other then Id love it if I had a girlfriend who could kick my ass as much as I could kick hers, to make the bragging rights equal! If they wanna play solo, good for them, just not on my pc lol, unless Im not going to be there for a few hours! Also, just to throw this out there, if there are any girls that pc game and use Steam and may want to play together sometime, let me know! If youre lucky and you dont already have them, I have a few duplicates of good co-op and multiplayer games that I might share, but only I get to know you well enough first of course! ^_^

^THIS This guy right here knows where it's at! I play a lot of solo games because I hate dealing with the bs I have to go through if others find out I'm a chick! That's why most times me and my gal pals are guy characters in MMO's. And for some reason people are surprised by this? I keep my gender a secret now a days in online stuff and never use mics in co-op multiplayer. But whatevs, this stuff gets all controversial and is a never ending cycle of blame game so I usually keep out of it, I said my bit so I'll keep my space and observe now. Though total props for Simon. :) Reassures me that there is hope and decent gaming guys out there. :DDD

I will agree gaming is primarily guys but being a gamer girl myself i'm starting to find more and more girl gamers. I think that it is so romantic for guys and girls to game together... Simon is right if you game well together then usually that means you are pretty compatible.

Romantic.. maybe. Sometimes gaming together can possibly harm a relationship depending on how competitive your partner is. I'm a gamer chick. Xbox 360 and PC. All sorts of stuff from PWI, Mabinogi, Raiderz, The Warz, (waiting on the Day Z standalone) LFD2, Borderlands 2, Gears3, Skyrim, Saints3, Farcry, KOA. AC... much more. I mean come on. I'll play with you in a game AND make you a damn sandwich. Really though, I'm always looking for new friends to game with xD Reality is though, if people have a problem with me being female and a gamer, then they can eat lead. I've never had problems with it though.

I'm a gamer girl i love video games and i never hide my identity online unless i want to mess with people. I do like playing solo games like DMC(all), Saints(all) and more. But I also like to play coop because its fun i play DC 1&2, Gears(all), Halo ODST, Army of Two (with lil bro), also Rock Band, and Guitar Hero (on Drums or Mic). Thinking about getting Borderlands is it good?
