Homelessness is an interesting issue. We do have people that are homeless because life hit them like a train and they didn't have the resources to deal with it. Another side of the coin is that we do have people who are homeless by choice. An old homeless man who is well known around here explained it to me over a drink. He said, "It's freedom. I don't gotta pay taxes, I don't gotta do anything I don't wanna. I want food I just go over the the back of the pizza place and get the food they throw away."

Yeah I think most problems can be summed as a people issue. The thing about our political system is that is most open to human error. Instead of one asshole to fuck things up we have a roster and draft and a line to replace them. I don't think any modern or past system of government works because they all rely on human error not mucking things up. If this was a monarchy or something we could just kill the one guy and move on to next schmuck failure means death that would be motivating(I'm kidding).

See the thing about monarchy is if one man has all the power he will do everything to keep it. Even more so when the only way to lose it is death. Now apply this logic to those in congress, they absolutely dont wanna leave office. Some guys have been there for 30+ years. In the case of our president 40 years working in the government and now they are serving 4 more years as its leader. In that sense the system is corrupt. I dont think someone should be in a position like that for so long. It gets so easy to say "well i get paid half a million to make a law and it doesnt hurt anyone so why not?" Then that half a million for a law turns into several million to turn a blind eye to human rights violations. Its not a system centered around human error its a system centered around the principle "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely " there is a reason why our president can only serve 8 years.

I believe that people lose their way and abandon principles and ideas they had when running.

Re UBI:
I used to just want pads and tampons free because I used to think it was incredibly unfair that a woman would have to pay more money on average on necessity items than a man.
Let's start small with that and maybe branch out to other things later lol.

One could argue that isnt a necessity since technically you can live without it. Its more if a luxary item, yes it is a very big inconvenience to not have it. But you wont actually die.
But if we are talking getting basic necessities then why stop at tampons? Lets make food free, and water free, then lets also make housing free. At that point alot of things become free, but who is supposed to reproduce these items? And why would they do it if all those other things are free.

Nah, it's a necessity. Menses is blood and tissue; biological waste. If every woman didn't use sanitary napkins or tampons, every place in public would be hazardous to society. It's a health and sanitation issue.

Now if you want to go back in time and do it the way it was managed before these inventions, we would be forcing women to quarantine themselves away while they have their flow. Then you would have to address it by either providing flow-pay for women who are forced to take off work so they can bleed in private. Businesses would essentially be paying more money in the long run for letting women take off work for this period of time rather than just making sanitary items free.

Just an add on to that. I took a class on Native American religions in college. One of my classmates was a Florida Seminole and he said when he was a small boy, the women on his reservation still did this. I'm sure they probably still did some sort of sanitation. I asked him about it but since he was a guy, he didn't know ALL the details. He just said that the women would sync up their periods together (as they do) and then they would all go to a small building and hang out for several days playing cards and board games. Since he was a boy he was never allowed in to play with them. They essentially made a gaming period club. haha
