"About Me"

I see a lot of people who only have "About Me" on their profiles. Really makes me wonder why so many people leave their pages essentially blank with the default "About Me", or at best a short sentence . I'm not sure what they really expect from people when they give you nothing to comment on or work with. I can't speak for others but they doesn't even seem worth bothering with when they're a a complete shot in the dark, you'd probably be better off talking to random people offline. What do you guys think about them?

I don't have a problem with it. Why would I care? I'm not an "About me" judge to tell people what they can and cannot put in their profiles. I am of the opinion that no one knows you better then you do. Hence people should put whatever they feel that describes them best in their "About me" section. Whether that be absolutely nothing or an entire bible full of text. You do you.

Hmm the people active in the forum typically don't care. I think the best use for it is to say something about yourself that might interest others, or, dare I say, attract others. You spend enough time in the forums posting, an about me isn't really necessary. But if you are single and looking to mingle, it can only help. I imagine a very small percentage think they will find someone on the site, though new members join all the time. I came back from a long hiatus and only a handful remained from '15-'16. Personally, I like to read what people say about themselves. I used to have more in mine but since being with Arc, I see no point to having one so fleshed out. I feel like people often miss the "Taken" part of my profile so I can at least say now "I'm engaged". And I also prefer talking in the forums to PMs unless I have some pre-established friendship with someone. So I've added that. I guess mine is more of a warning label now lol.

My opinion on this is as thus: Most people come here thinking one of two things: 1: "Dating site?" After looking at it, "No, wait, it's a forum... Why is it...?" And then they don't do anything much with their profile because the belief that they'd find a mate on here had bypassed the rock bottom and into the quantum realm. 2: "Is this a place where my people gather?" What doesn't help is that the population is 99.9r% male (grim-dark stereotyping due to how society has marketed the internet, gaming, and such habits), and there's no way to confirm if one's truly a female due to the chances (>50%) of them being a trap, never being online, or not having any hope/interest in regards to finding anything substantial beyond a fellow weeb to weeb about with. This all leads to most people either writing out RP/self-insert bios instead of a dating profile, or not filling out their profile because they expect nothing. I wound up being one the former'st; coming here in the vain belief that there'd be members of the opposite sex who are uncannily akin to myself who are local and open to the possibilities of convergence. Hope became a combustion fuel that day. Now I just check back here on a pseudo-regular basis in case by some remarkable occurrence a female of stalker/thicc/gamer/weeb GF material had found me appealing enough to pursue, but such hopes are, as ever, pointless. Dangerous even. But to realign to the initial subject: 'About me's are almost never filled out no matter what site you go to, and even then the only things you'll find in the majority are 'I like sports!' 'I like animals!' 'I like food, alcohol, pizza, pizza!' 'FOOTBALL!' 'Why you sending lewds? WTF?' and 'Add me on [media] ad d m3 om [fake_site] 4 3 sx' - with a sub-infinitesimally-small chance fluctuating between absolute 0 and 'maybe' of finding someone who took their time to fill out their profile. And even then -those- people would never reply to your messages because they never check because all they got were lewds and generic 'requests' that made them hate the opposite sex so much that they gave up and bought a Husbando dakimakura, forgoing humanity for artificial constructs of increasingly advanced quality. To which there -will- come a day where the populations overall will dwindle rapidly due to a complete 'forgettion' of what it means to appeal to nature's call. ...My apologies did I go on another tangent? Irrelevant! What's important here is that not only is my view of my own species so distorted from the hopeful original interpretation, but it has only further been warped by all that I have experienced. A-anyway! TL DR = Q: Reason they leave page blank? A: They don't think they'll find anyone, let alone anything.
