An employee opened fire Wednesday at a California rail yard serving Silicon Valley, killing eight people. The gunman was also dead, authorities said.
The suspect was an employee of the Valley Transportation Authority, which provides bus, light rail and other transit services throughout Santa Clara County, the largest county in the Bay Area, Santa Clara County sheriff's authorities said.
The shooting took place around 6:30 a.m. at a light rail facility in San Jose next door to the sheriff's department and across a freeway from the airport.
Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Russell Davis said the attack resulted in "multiple major injuries." He did not know the type of weapon used or whether the gunfire happened indoors or outdoors. He said the victims included VTA employees.
Police vehicles and orange crime-scene tape blocked off the area where the shooting happened, and reporters were kept at a distance The rail yard is in the city's administrative neighborhood, near the sheriff's office and city and county offices.
Bomb squads were searching the rail complex after receiving information about possible explosive devices inside the building, Davis said.

. . .I know people say Chinese (and Taiwanese) devs are known asset/music thieves at times, but damn. The Mainland government, doing this? With fucking Square Enix?
I don't know whether I praise CCP for cucking Square or I laugh at their blatant lack of shame. In doubt, I'll do both.

IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS, MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WILL LOSE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
Posted by John Titor | May 31, 2021 |
With at least 24 GOP-led states set to end federal unemployment assistance before they’re set to expire on Sept. 6, millions of Americans are going to need to dust off those resumes and start helping reduce the massive job shortage after being paid to stay home for over a year.
The benefits set to lapse include not only the additional $300 weekly federal supplement, but programs for gig workers and others who typically don’t qualify for aid “(Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, or PUA) and for the long-term unemployed (Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, or PEUC) in most cases,” according to CNBC, which has provided this handy guide to states set to end benefits, and when:
June 12: Alaska, Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri
June 19: Alabama, Idaho, Indiana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming
June 26: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas
June 27: Montana, Oklahoma, Utah
July 3: Tennessee
July 10: Arizona
Several states are even offering financial incentives for people who find new jobs, including Arizona, Montana, New Hampshire and Oklahoma.

I wonder who thought it was a good idea to basically pay people to stay home. But glad to see they ended that prematurely. Jobs were suffering because of it.

A lot of jobs that are suffering are jobs that don't pay well for the hours/ labor you have to put in. Pay people better and they will be more willing to work

That's why McDonalds went ahead and raised their min wage to $15. Nobody wants to work there! With as sky high as inflation has been, this has been more and more necessary to have a wage one can live on. I know here around atlanta you can't even afford to rent anywhere near a mcdonalds because of the friggin housing price spike.

Even at $15 an hour I don't know if I would want to work at Mc D's. People are fucking toxic to fast food workers/ retail workers
