Films you watched as a kid but couldn't appreciate until you were older?

When I was about 4, I remember going to the library and for some reason or another my mom rented the original 1941 Fantasia for me. Once I got home, I went to watch it on our VCR (Back when those were actually a thing. xD) since all movies were in the format of VHS tapes at the time obviously. As a kid, I was pretty bored by most of the segments that I actually fell asleep for the majority of the movie except for The Sorceror's Apprentice cause it had Mickey Mouse in it as a magician apprentice and it's a pretty iconic part of Fantasia. I mean it's literally on the front cover of the actual movie. I also remember liking the story of life, the segment with the Dinosaurs since I loved Dinos as a kid. The intense build of the music for that entire segment always resonated with me. But yeah, I never saw Fantasia again until about 6 years ago if memory serves? I had a friend in a past guild that I was a part of who was a huge fan of that movie and I figured I should give it another chance. And so I gave it a 2nd viewing, and it was ten times better than the first time I saw it! The original Fantasia quickly became one of my favorite Disney movies. It's so imaginative and very adult by meshing classical music with stunning Disney animation matching the rhythm of the music but the way they do it is executed so very well. Especially Night on Bald Mountain combined with St. Ave Maria still astounds me to this day. It's kind of interesting because I never really thought much about movies when I watched them when I was younger. xP In any case, has anyone experienced something similar?

I did experience this with some movies, but the only one I can think of is Enchanted. I used to think it's another dumb romance movie, but it kind of stuck with me, so years and years later I decided to watch it again and I was so delighted. I saw it as a movie that can give people hope and treats several subjects properly imo.

One movie that I can think of, which fits this topic, is Elizabethtown. It's a dark comedy dealing with one young man's quest to find himself. Needless to say, it flew over my head when I first watched it as a teenager, but when I rewatched it during my twenties, I really connected with the protagonist's journey. It illustrates that an art form's impact largely depends on where we are in our lives.

That was Blade Runner for me. I was 5 or 6 when I first watched it and I thought it was boring. Then I watch it when I was about 16 or something and it became one of my all time favorite movies. Branching into what the future could look like by being both the Jetsons and Escape From NY at the same time. Gave us modern cyberpunk and more than a few animes used Blade Runner as a template. I personally found the characters in it most amazing. Rutger Hauer actually one-upped Harrison Ford in acting as his character Roy Batty. Of course it had to have the most amazing ending of all time. Trying not to spoil this movie, but it is bittersweet. Beautifully done especially with Rutger Hauer's performance.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Young Frankenstein starring Gene Wilder! Humor is something that gets better with age.

These are some interesting responses everyone! @Katse, I've never seen Enchanted but my sister really loved that movie a lot. I should probably give it a chance since from what I've heard it's a blend between Disney animation and live action. There's a few films that I like that does that well such as Mary Poppins, or Who Framed Roger Rabbit. @sadster, I've never heard of Elizabethtown. But the premise sounds pretty fascinating. @dyadka, Bladerunner is a classic among film buffs. I had to watch that for a Film Analysis course way back in the past. Definitely a great film even today. @gabriel, I loved Young Frankenstein as a kid. Gene Wilder was amazing in just any role that I've seen him in. I should check out Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I've heard it has John Cleese.

@eternallunar1, Enchanted was one of the few movies I liked in this genre/type. Also, another movie or... movies should I say (I mean all the other adaptations) that I only realized how brilliant are later in life were The Addams Family. I really liked the dark humor as a kid and enjoyed that it was so different from everything else I have been watching till then (anime not counting). They are, in some way, actually the ideal family. Or at least a great family unit. And they take all the "ideals" you might have or unrealistic expectations and twist them beautifully. The satire in the movies flew a bit over my head when I first started watching the movies, but later on I started having a taste for this type of content and I kind want to binge watch all the movies, starting from the first one if I can find it.

Team America and starship troopers, when I was a kid I didn't realise they're both satirical representations of America
