As an artist myself, I like to look at other artist's work to get me motivated and try to develop my own style. But, I'm curious about everyone here who's an artist. Back when you were starting out was there any particular artists whether it'd be from the past or present, whose work inspired you a great deal and motivated you to want to draw? Or perhaps it was his/her style that you loved?

For me, definitely Rumiko Takahashi. Inuyasha was probably beginning of when I started getting into anime. I still have nostalgic feelings towards. I know lots of people say that all of her faces are the same, but I love her character expressions especially the comedic timing.

Makoto Raiku- Another mangaka artist that I am fond of as well. I believe it was this volume of Zatch Bell/Or Gash Bell when I started getting really into it. His artstyle is a lot of fun, weird and unique. There's a simplicity and charm that I love about his work.

Toshiyuki Kabooka- He's the character designer of the Lunar series which are my favorite JPRGs of all times. He's done other stuff like The Idolmaster, and a few obscure stuff but Lunar is the best of his work, nothing else compares in my opinion. Especially Lunar 2: Eternal Blue I love that game with a passion. And he was honestly the main reason I began drawing. There's something that charming and lively about his artstyle that I really love.

Sachiko Wada- She did the character designs for the Fire Emblem GBA games. Particularly Fire Emblem blazing sword was my exposure to her work, and it's still gorgeous. All the characters are so interesting and diverse, extremely amazing details, and so expressive. The CGs in that game still look seriously good to this day.

Senri Kita- The last artist I want to talk about. Much like Sachiko Wada, I love this lady's work. She did the art for the Fire Emblem Tellius games. But I love her work on Path of Radiance the most. But she's got this sense of realism about her work that has so much weight, so detailed, and so very interesting.

interesting!
when i was getting into finding my own art style i started with inuyasha (the rectangle sharper edged eyes and thick hair) and as i grew up i changed it to more of Matsuri Hino (mangaka for Vampire Knight) for hair and eyes and and Yuu Kouga (Loveless) for eyes (like leaving a characters eyes black if theyr far away and in less detail
also Atsushi Ohkubo for hairstyle (like how maka's pigtails are a single, solid shape and rarely do you see it come apart)
iv recently been trying to take Ishida Sui's (tokyo ghoul) later art style with his eyes
the rounder bottoms and flatter shape adds more realism

ishida is my favorite mangaka for not only his story, but also his flawless art style (though his battle scenes can be hard to distinguish at times xD)

Kei Sasuga (Domestic Kanojo)
She somehow manages to convey the characters' feelings to the reader with such finesse. And almost every scene is drawn so flawlessly.

Ooh, Lamby. I really like the artstyle for Tokyo Ghoul! I've never read it before, but it's so very expressive and interesting! You have very interesting artstyle influences you've got there, indeed!
I've heard of Domestic Girlfriend. But never got into it. I do like the expression of that image there. It's got a powerful sense of drama from what I can sense.
I've never heard of Artgerm before. I think the image link was broken or is it just me?

Oh yeah, I did forget to mention one more very important influence for me.(Not sure if this counts or not?) But it was definitely this film Castle in the Sky which made me appreciate animation as an artform when I was just getting out of middle school. And I believe it was because of this movie that motivated me to draw as well as the other artists that I mentioned.

Studio Ghbili in general has beautiful works and just anything directed by Hayao Miyazaki is top notch, but man Castle in the Sky blew my mind and it still does to this day.
