can you talk about feminism?

I’d like to point out wages vary between men working the exact same job as well. What it often boils down to is how confidently and aggressively you negotiate your wages when hiring on. It’s an approach men are more likely to take and push towards than women. On that note, my girlfriend makes more money than me, yet I still pay for everything. Where’s the equality when the check comes? Yeah, right... My male ego wouldn’t let her pay even if she offered, and her ego would suffer if she didn’t get the special treatment. I’m fine with things not ALWAYS being equal. We aren’t the same in everything. We aren’t equal in everything. We should let guys be guys and women be women without trying to force everything to be equal and the same all the time. That’s far too unrealistic.

What Teacup says does happen. But that should come as no surprise to anyone given all the scuzzy and illegal things businesses do every day. Forced overtime work with no overtime pay. Actively making it harder for workers to leave to work elsewhere. Paying less than minimum wage. Hiring illegals, so that they can be more taken advantage of (as they are even less likely to seek legal help). Most of the time people have no way to really fight against this. And often times if they can, it will only make things worse for them if they do (especially if employment options are very limited in the area). @Wes Thats assuming wage negotiations are even a thing. The area I live in for example is such a conservative "you should be happy you have a chance to work a job at all" area, that wage negotiations are highly frowned upon, and even asking about wages at any point (even after you have started working) is a good way to get let go.

People misunderstand what feminism is and it hurts my soul.

Unpopular opinion here, but i know a person who did a coarse on feminism in University. Feminism is great, and so is the women's rights movement, they are both amazing things. But the Feminism movement is not. It is writhing with contradictions and hypocrisy. I have many many examples. My favorite is the fact the Feminism moment is aggressively Pro abortion. (because its pro women choice, your body your rules.) But this goes against what feminism means. The definition of feminism as taught by university, and as per the dictionary, is the equal rights of women and CHILDREN. key point is children. I doubt abortion is pro children. I often laugh at the hypocrisy here. I get into many convocations/discussions/arguments with this person. about Politics, religion, culture, ethics, feminism, and much more. This is one of the less heated topics we discuss. edit- I would say, the women's right movement, was amazing, but then they co-opted the word feminism without understanding what it meant, and thus began the movements slow metamorphosis into something horrid and disgusting.

It seems like a lot of people are confusing the feminist position with man hating crazies. It's just like minecraft back in the day, the cringey 12 year olds were the loudest so that's what people equated with it. Now we have a few radicals claiming to be feminists saying that men don't matter and women should be on top and everyone just assumes that's what feminism is. The way I see it, the feminist position is a lot more passive than everyone thinks. It's something you can identify with to any degree. For example you could say that you are a soccer player, that doesn't mean you're in MLS. To be a feminist is just to be pro women, to whatever degree you see fit.

But by that logic.... i would say 98% of the world is feminist. Just a few people who sit in a dark room, thinking "FUCK WOMEN, THEY SHOULD ALL DIE" over and over. At that point, so calling yourself a feminist is like calling yourself a human.... i would just look at you like your crazy... like duuuuuhhh. Then again, its just normal. why does it have to be a feminist thing? Why the need to put a label to it? Especially such a bad label as feminist, i mean bad as in. It would be more accurate to call yourself a chair than a feminist. Its such a poorly chosen word to use for this meaning.

Feminism is alright. Extremes aren't.

Sigh.... the word feminism literally makes no sense when you call yourself it. That defeats the purpose of the word. It is not something you can be.
