Is it bad to be honest?

I know that a lot of people have things that they want to say to others but know that if they do people could get hurt by being honest. I should know because of the time I'm a realist and I don't mind speaking my mind even if people get hurt but i rather be honest with others then lie to others (if that makes any sense). Anyway that's why am asking if any if you believe that it is good to be honest or better to stay silent and keep secrets from people.

It is good to tell people the truth no matter what but im the type of person who would lie to keep a person happy. Telling people things as they are is a trait i envy from realists as i cannot do that myself, but i believe being honest is a good thing but sometimes it isnt for example it could kill someone's confidence...

Depends. Honesty is the best policy in most cases, but sometimes you need nuance and precision when applying it. After all, flat out telling someone all their problems are their fault in such a way will only make them defensive, and unwilling to listen to you, and that just brings unwanted counterproductive drama upon both parties. Sometimes silence is the better option, but it should only be a temporary option for when you don't know how to put something, or when it's more relevant to speak up about it. (And of course if you have a very subjective opinion that doesn't constructively help anyone, then its best to keep that to yourself.) Lying should be used very sparingly and very carefully. It is still a tool of communication that could be used for the greater good in the right context, but it should in no ways be relied upon or used to harm. Least according to my own ethnocentric beliefs. So yeah, to answer the main question, honesty can be bad if used destructively, just as dishonesty can. And vice versa. Whether lying or telling the truth, just try to respect the person you are talking to.

Always be honest. I hate liars, even people who exaggerate stories. I despise those who beat around the bush. If you walk up to me and say "how are you?" But you really want to tell me about your self, just skip to it. There are times I will remain silent but I will never lie. If you need a truth delivered softly, I'm not the person for it. I will however recommend you get a second opinion from a more tactful person. Being able to accept criticism should be a kindergarten benchmark.
