So kaneki has a trouble childhood and then is tortured a tiny bit by jason and now apparently he is a completely different person. Fuck outta here with that logic. So unrealistic. Being in a situation where you literally arent allowed to go crazy because those around you still depend on you. Kaneki doesnt have that. Its like a suicidal person who is stopped from suicide generally they dont just go right back when no one is looking and die. They are ok because they get help but then another event happens and they give up.

And then he was attacked by Nishiki, who almost ate his childhood friend. And then he was used as a play thing by a whole stadium of hungry ghouls. His trauma culminated throughout the entire manga, starting with Ryouko's death and ending when he decided he would give his life to save Anteiku, the only place he belonged. He knew Yoshimura, Kouma, and Irimi were going to give their lives for Anteiku and he wasn't going to let them do it. Only he was allowed to die for others. Because that was his purpose. To take pain so others wouldn't have to. Oh, not to mention when his aunt hated him for being smarter than her son, the very aunt that syphaned money from Kaneki's single mother and was the reason she worked so hard. Kaneki despised his aunt because while his mother was working so hard to earn back the money she gave to her, she was abusing Kaneki. And then died. Leaving him. I literally fleshed out as much of the reasons why his story is more tragic than kaneki's at this point you gotta be trolling XD there is no way you tell me kaneki has experienced more suffering than subaru. And experiencing trauma doesnt turn you into another person. I work directly with mental health and i know when you are in crisis thats just it. Ur in crisis, it goes away. If you were raped you dont then spend the rest of your life being raped. You move on at some point or font and let it linger but you dont change completely you are still yourself just traumarized. Idk where this whole kaneki is better thing os coming from but pls pick a different protag cuz he isnt even close. If you wanna argue a complex character choose one that makes sense. Hell choose fucking naruto or something even thats better

What do you even mean he had no one depending on him?? He fucking had lots of people that depended on him! Why do you think he left Anteiku to fight Aogiri?! For himself?? EVERYTHING Kaneki did was for someone else! Your projecting if you think I'm the one that's not understanding something. I've been abused and I relate a lot with Kaneki. You don't magically get over it. You aren't the same person. When you're beaten down you change. You have to. And Subaru doesnt.
