Scene of them reflecting on every single death he has had and how the world still continues even after he dies. Its not a gift but a curse for subaru. https://youtu.be/TQ0mmbdcre0

No no, dont get me wrong, of course he wouldn't miss his old life, its shown his old life fuckin' sucked. My issue is he never missed his parents. The one aspect that didn't suck. This could be corrected if they were dead, and so he has already gotten over their death or was even using this new world as a means to forget about their untimely death. But nope. They're alive. And he never once thought about them or missed them. He had chances, like when he was made catatonic by Sloth he could have had a flashback to his old life, thinking 'yeah that was better, I miss that. I thought I wanted this but I fucking don't.' and then something happens to remind him he does want this new life, like Rem or Emilia or something. Maybe THEN was the time for a flashback and have him confess his feelings for Emilia to his parents and say goodbye to them as a way to free himself from such useless, regretful thoughts. Buuuut nope. While i agree that's alright motivation, we never see he was in his dads shadow until season fucking two. Establish that sooner so we have a reason behind his motivation. The reason why he may want to be isekaied. This is why I think the LN would be better, because I've been told the pacing is much better. Also he wasn't a NEET, he was a hikikomori. He was technically still enrolled in school and could go back any time. I'm sorry but you need to tell me how he becomes more broken by his fight with Sloth. Because that's one of my main issues. my point is it isn;t shown any lasting effects, therefore there was nothing gained from that fight, making it meaningless. In writing there is a point for these climaxes, and it isn't for some action to be watched, its for the character to develop. Tell me how season two Subaru is different from season one. Also Kaneki's depiction of insanity isn't unrealistic. He develops split personality disorder, which is an actual diagnosable symptom of ptsd. Kaneki Ken was amazingly written, though not perfect, he is in every way superior to Subaru when it comes to the trauma they both have faced. Also it doesn't matter if Subaru is technically 'cursed' its still an op ability, so its the same op protagonist trope. Something Kumo breaks. And sorry but i don't want to watch a video xD just like you don't wanna type out the video, I don't wanna watch it xD

Re:zero's premise is it walks the line of madness. They get to the edge and drop only to be pulled back by scenes such as Rem's confession albeit made some anime fans angry it needed to happen. Subaru wanted to run away and not face sloth and not fight the white whale or deal with any of that. But she told him this isnt you the subaru i know is a hero. Thats what he needed to hear. That was his character development he continued to fight but as things went on he realized how useles he was and wasnt deserving of the title of hero as Rem goes into a coma and those aroundbhim die and he cant fjnf a solution. The sloth is that build up at chipping away his mental state. Thats why when beetleguese says you are not crazy why pretend you are. He was right his madness had not been reached. This is honestly the most realistic portrayal of a human in that situation. Many would kill themselves but he cannot. Whether he lives or dies it will still happen. So he bvb has no chouce but to kove forward. This is his chipping away event like kaneki and jason. Him thinking about his parents probably was more about the story plot. The story wasnt ready for that yet. We dont dive into Subaru's life until the arc. So imma say its for the plot basically. Its not about it not happening its more of thw timing. You cant dock points for that. The sloth battle needed to happen for subaru to walk the line of madness and grow to who he is rn. The anime is about suffering not like those halfassed anime where one thing happens and the guy is crazy forever. Its the same with PTSD you get over it but something triggers you and you realize you arent actually over it. Not that the sloth battle is his PTSD but it reminds him of his situation even when he tries to ignore it. He is useles and weak and depends on others. And cant tell anyone or they will die.

So the self absorbed kid who gets thrown into another world does not miss his parents until season 2 when he needs their validation/support and you think that is not valid? I am sorry but that is a god awful reason to say Subaru is a poor character. He was never once portrayed in a way that would make you believe otherwise. Claiming he is not great because his characteristics are something you don't understand is not a good reason. You have a clear misunderstanding of his character of you think good writing would have wrote his parents into season 1 for any reason.

ok quick reason why rems character fucking sucked. emilia got the typical 'first girl' treatment and the writer took for granted that she was 'first girl' and gave her very little character development and even screen time. rem was shoved in our faces, made to be the best girl artificially while ignoring emilias existence. so that's why anime fans were pissed. they were forced to love rem, and subaru only loved emilia because of the first girl trope. logically speaking he should have loved rem. it was like he was some baby duck and just imprinted on emilia, deciding to love her instead of all the care that rem gave him. emilia didn't earn his love, she was gifted it. i hate rem for this reason, i hate that they tried to push her so hard. it didnt feel natural or organic. anyways They get to the edge and drop only to be pulled back" Yes, i agree this happens and that's my issue. Nothing ever sticks., Please for the love of all that is holy tell me how Subaru fro,m season one is a different character from season 2. What has changed in regard to character development? because for me the only thing that's different is his surroundings and the general plot. He as a character has stagnated because anything that should help develop his character is swept away so that he remains the same dengeki shonen protag. by the way Kaneki wasn't chipped away by Yamori, it started with his mother. His mother was abusive and caused Kaneki to develope his 'i'll accept the pain so you don;t have to' mentality. THAT'S where it started. And then he was slowly withered down by Ryouko's death, Nishiki's assault of Hide, and the most traumatizing (preYamori) was being tricked and forced to fight by Tsukiyama. Surrounded by hungry ghouls that wanted him dead. All leering at him like he was their entertainment. That was the second worst thing to happen to him, All Yamori did was put the final nail in his coffin. Yamori tortured him relentlessly, mentally and physically. That was when he had to reject his humanity and become a 'ghoul', because all the strongest people around him were ghouls. And they were also cruel, which is how he became. He literally became a reflection of his surroundings as well as abusers. Same thing happened to Homura, she became a reflection of the very thing she sought to defeat. Abused people often times become their abusers. That's why Yamori got his finger cracking from his abuser, and Kaneki got it from him. That's also why Yamori is shown as a father type figure to Kaneki, because he molded him. Rize created him and Yamori molded him. Like a mother and father, which is how they are depicted in art. Tell me how Subaru is even an OUNCE as well written as Kaneki? Kaneki isn't your sweet kind helpful and hopefully protag, he starts off that way but is beaten down, and he learns you cant achieve anything that way. You have to become cruel. Subaru has been beaten down and is the same damn person before and after. The only thing that's changed with Subaru are the people around him. I don't know if you've ever gone through abuse, but it isn't easy to hide like Subaru does. Kaneki still puts on a smile even when hes hurting, but its hollow. It is a mask. Subaru's isn't a mask. Kaneki is so cleverly written that hes written with a tell to show when hs lying. He touches his chin. This tells the audience how hes really feeling without any unessecarily exposition. It allows us to peer beneath the mask https://i.pinimg.com/originals/be/a1/c1/bea1c108b5d98cdb04be62dbf28a36ef.jpg Again, Subaru has none of this depth.

Lamby subaru from season one to the the current season. Has gone from this arrogant protagonist who runs from his problems to someone who faces head on. If you notice after the sloth fight he hasnt tried running. He keeps trying to fix the issue even down to the suicide where he tries to fix rem. He doesnt run at all. He faces it head on. His issue now is that he is weak and useless and doesnt have the answers. Which was also solved at the end of season one part one. Now he is moving with a sense of "i got this" and is taking charge and challenging figures such as the witches, garfiel, and even roswaal. He has character development. Rem also wasnt shoved in our faces. Again timing. We dont learn about emilia because emilia had no backstory. Emilia doesnt know who shebis at that point in time. It isnt until this season that she remembered who she is. Emilia had her memory blocked due to a curse put on her by pandora. Its literally an entire episode dedicated to it. There was nothing to put out there for emilia while rem had an actual story her memory wasnt erased. Rem wasnt artificially shived in our face she has a reason. And emilia saved subaru if not for emilia, rem wouldnt be a thing in his story. Emilia definitely has a reason for being his pick. But he also has rem that loves him. You gotta watch the anime fam. Its clear you dint know whats going on.

When did he run from his problems in the first season? Again it's been four years, so my memory is rusty. Didn't he embrace the 'kill myself/die to reset' thing? Like with the curse of the wolves he didn't give up, he died over and over to save the village and that's like, the first story arc. He isn't useless. He has fixed all the problems he's ever faced in the anime. Wasn't his issue not that he's useless, but that he can't stand having to constantly die to fix them? Wasn't that why he wanted to give up? Dying was becoming too painful and too much of a toll on his mental state? Also, Kaneki's motivations are way better than Subaru's. Kaneki was used as a punching bag when he was a small child by his mother, her even telling him 'take the pain so others don't have to.' This is why he's so willing to sacrifice himself for others. Why he's willing to go into cases where he could die. Because this trauma was ingrained into him by his own mother, the woman that's meant to mold him into an upstanding citizen, instead used him for her own gain. https://pm1.narvii.com/6034/d4d38a14d8c6bbe132290386091985b9ff962baf_hq.jpg This panel holds more feeling and depth than anything in Re;Zero, season one and two. That is Kaneki's motivations, and even THEN he is still bat shit scared of ghouls at first. Because he's realistic. It's when he conquered his innate fear of ghouls as a human does he use this inner mantra his mother ingrained into him. "Take the pain so others don't have to." Subaru's motivation? He was in his dad's shadow. That's it. His dad was TOO good. That's literally the reason. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad motivation, at least it is motivation, but it's nowhere near anything worth complimenting or pointing out. Plus Kaneki gets stronger by training and reading books on martial arts (which makes sense because hes a book worm so he would read books on it before actually training with it) To my memory Subaru never actually physically trains. If he felt so useless why not ask to learn how to fight? If he doesn't want to use his reset ability why not find a way to not have to, like training to get physically or even mentally stronger? the rem debate is a debate in its own right so i don't wanna cover it yet

Lamby you cannot grasp the concept XD he tries to run away in the same episode where rem confesses subaru says lets run away me and you and start a family and all that to which she says no the subaru i love doesnt run away and then he turned around and said yeah you are right and i love emilia. She knew the answer already, but that doesnt stop her from loving him. Subaru is useless in the sense he hasnt been able to accomplish anything on his own. He always needed help. With elsa (bowel hunter) it was reinhardt. With the white whale it was everyone, with beetlegues he needed help, with garfeil he needed help. Thats what i mean
