Just say "Hello." Most conversations naturally start that way so there's no need to reinvent the wheel here.

Well for starters, I'd highly advise against "hello", "hi", "how are you?", "how was your day" as I'm sure a lot of people hear that on a day to day basis which I know in my case can become dreadfully painful to see upon opening my inbox. Start or say something different, unusual, out of the ordinary, but don't be generic about it either.

Indeed you need to stand out online, but I feel that stating that you're looking for date right off the bat makes people uncomfortable. And while it may get tiresome to get a bunch of people saying hi over and over, that is just what our society sees as polite behavior. It all comes down to making yourself seem approachable.
