Traveling to Japan VS. Overprotective Parents

meisterman1985
I just turned 33 and got tired of living in Georgia State in the U.S. too much and hope to reach my dreams in Japan. Perhaps move there. But I do have too much protection from my parents, especially my mother who is too hesitant to believe other people in Japan that their country is astronomically safe. Any advice?

Japan is very safe, specially if you have a guide or a trust friend to show you around and you stay in tourist areas (iv never been but its really just common sense) your 33, you shouldnt be letting your parents hold you back, your an adult and if your financially capable of it i say go for it of course talk to your parents on skype or something to check up but thats just how i feel, an outside viewing in goodluck my dude

I believe so, but hopefully there will be a job for autistic adults like me available.

If you're 33 it's time to stop caring what your parents think and just do what you want. You don't need their permission to go, just go.

Realistically, autism could become an obstacle, depending on how visible yours is or how it affects you doing your job, but don't give up just for that. If you're able to take care of yourself, you can still very well make it there. Just be smart about going there and, if at all possible, don't explicitely reveal your autism to anyone except those who need to know. The stigma is still iffy in Japan (though autism programs are getting better, especially), and doing so could just put more pressure and isolation on you than you need to stay mentally healthy alone in a foreign country. Hopefully someday, things will change, but overall, don't give up. =3
