Well that would mean a change in the overall behaviour of certain users who are doing this, which might be quite difficult. Personally I would say that people need to calm down with the friend requests. Think about it like this: in certain school anime series where theres a new student arriving. All of the school clubs charge at the person and just make the person flee and scared. This kind of behaviour is pretty much the same thing (and if its happening to a woman/girl by men then all the more problematic). How would you feel if that happened immediately when you were just looking for a few nice people to talk to at first. Just say hi in the introduction post and try to make some conversation. Then when they ease up to the site, ask if they would like to be friends if you're not already or see if they send a request to you. I have seen a few new people close their profiles already since I joined this site a few weeks ago. So those who do this: maybe try to be less on the attack mentality ok. It's not good to scare the new people this way if you're just wanting to be friends with them.

Maybe if the new person can add other people but people cant add the new person for a week. That way they dont get bombarded but they are still able to make some friends with the ones that interest them. Then after a week when they get bombarded they will have been here hopefully long enough to survive it. OR The peeps can stop rushing at the newbies lmao

Also its a few of the lurkers and guys who chase after new girls that we need to deal with because they are often creepy and thirsty
