Then he probably wants to rub it in your face. Like, "look at me, I've got a beautiful and sexy girlfriend now, I'm glad you rejected me".

How about you talk to him once and figure out his intentions as you speak. I think its pretty unfair to not give him a chance to clear things up. Also no one here knows the dude personally and its easy to make hypothetical scenarios and tell you to do this and that. You know him the best out of everyone here so you have to make that judgement. I say you talk to him once and see how it goes from there. If hes an asshole and just wants to flex his relationship you leave him. If not and he just wants to be a friend then its all good!

This is so cringy and anger inducing...
Sigh* dude he wants to make you jealous and incite deep feelings within you, while at the same time, making you feel as if you needed to step up your game if you wanted to be his girlfriend once more.
"Huuur duuur look, me gorilla, me happy, me ballsy without you, Huf huf, you miserable, me happy, Huf huf"
He's trying to assert that he's "the cool guy that you need" regardless of whether you need him or no, he doesn't cares about you, he just cares about having a trophy to brag around he managed to reconquer.
If hes pulling this crap behind his girlfriend back what makes you think he won't backstab you as well as soon as you move a finger?
Literally, all options outside of "send texts to his gf, explain situation and tell her you don't want anything to do with this" will end up with a huge drama, that, IMHO, unless you reaaaaaally want it, you won't pursue.
For quality drama just tell "I like you" to any desperate guy here, then 13 seconds later say "am kidding, teheee" boom, quality drama for a month

@candystarmagic I went throught something a lil bit similar to this so i know how it feels . I think If you want to meet him do it only to give your mind peace so that you can stop the regretful if's and put some kind of closure . Also to give him a chance to explain ... i don't totally know the guy to judge but i can see some red flags from him so going back as friends with him doesn't seem good especially with the way his gf is . You may get involved in some messy drama .

Why are teenagers so mentally unstable?
From the evolutionary psychiatry standpoint: (Abridged broad view version.)
Humans stand between Bonobos (A matriarchal society) and Chimps (A patriarchal society) in their social structure, and thus we come off as more socially flexible, with both men and women able to dynamically take leadership rules and lead the tribe. However, as families grew to tribes, and tribes to clans, it was discovered early on in society that a clan which has lost its men can bounce back far easier than a society that has lost it's women. As such, women were often tasked with safe guarding the children while the males went off and did the more dangerous tasks. This was purely for a practical reason, we've since outgrown it. But basically, male entitlement was born from a sense that in early tribal structure, the female could leave the male for any reason if they felt they were inadequate, as a hunter, sickly, or incapable of protecting the woman. You see, in human mating dynamics, the men may find themselves leading more often, but it's the women who ultimately decide who passes their genes along. Always has been, the evidence supports this, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And as the man was out there doing what he perceived was the risky task, while the women of the tribe were foraging and doing less risky tasks (Not entirely true, it was the women's job to fight off predators while the men were away, after all, and if they weren't up to the task, humanity would have been wiped out in it's infancy.), that's when they started to restructure the power systems to resemble chimps, where you have one alpha on top.
Or at least that's how it was in some tribes. But as we know from studying human social dynamics today, in the traits that both males and females find attractive in the opposite sex, THERE REALLY IS NO SUCH THING OF ALPHAS AND BETAS IN HUMAN SOCIAL STRUCTURE! That being said, Status is something coveted by both sexes, or at least through their genes. But the reason we know that the stereotypical dominant alpha male isn't what women always find attractive is this. We find traits like intelligence, creativity, passion, and devotion to be attractive.
Nevertheless, as this false sense of entitlement took hold in culture, which carried over into the agricultural lifestyles that humans began to cultivate. Now let's observe how humanity reproduced for a second in nomadic lifestyle. Less of a work load meant more time for sex, which as humans were between chimps and bonobos, meant they were not quite monogamous, but not quite not exactly polyamorous either. You found a mate, that mate was expected to stay around and help raise the child, but as mortality rates among early humans was rather high, the need to find more than one mate through out life was rather... Necessary. In Agrarian life, humans had an abundance or surplus of food that they had to get to feed more people, so the need of social mobility was lessened. Still, humans were expected to mate going into their teens. So they kept that around for a good while. But the concept of monogamy became more and more ingrained into society. And as such, all kinds of stupid rules became set into place that either restricted them to reproducing with a certain stock, or encouraged them to reproduce with a certain TYPE of stock.
So fuedalism came and went (Least in some places of the world), and women were kinda stuck in this spot where they were kinda protected, placed out of harms way, and not allowed to call the shots. Various religions kinda idealized this notion, and fucked up both genders yet again by adding chastity into the mix. So it stayed well into the early modern period. Now let's fast forward for a bit. Entering the modern world, it was still very much a man's game, even after the women's suffrage movement. But as women were able to define themselves more, they ran into a few problems. They had outgrown the need for a lot of the archaic gender roles that had been placed upon them at birth. Men too were facing problems from this. See, now that arranged marriages were discouraged in most parts of the world, it meant that they had to pass a woman's sense of screening for genes, which was never really bread out of them over the years. And teens males who were really ready to get out into the world with their hormones telling them to spread their seed, found that they were expected to control their urges. As human social dynamics became more focused to internet and social media, people enter the world realizing that they haven't quite developed the skills they need to get ahead in their careers, or in their relationships. And that whole thing that whole screening thing that they had to learn how to get around? Well, they were given the wrong approach to it. The Alpha Male model if you will. There are some who get around it by manipulating the emotions of women, or by down right failing as a human being in general and resorting to force, but for both genders, there seems to be a lot of confusion and sexual frustration, and it's mostly due to hour our society doesn't quite reflect how we were supposed to get by. I mean just look at the Bushmen of South Africa. They've still been going on like that longer than any civilization, and they are much happier on average than modern humans. The ones hit the hardest by civilization are the teens of the modern era, who could no longer find their dopamine fixes through the old ways of connecting on a much deeper level, and instead opt for the instant gratification that social media can give them. And as young people don't often build the skills they should be building at their age, they often enter adulthood with many feelings of inadequacy, anxieties, and depression. Unsure of how to conceptualize the many urges and emotional cravings that they fell themselves having.
In short: I blame the boomers, who have been resisting change for three generations now, and still remain largely in control, and never really giving us the resources to prepare or figure it out for ourselves.

Boomer blame Millennials. Millennials blame boomers. Very complex deep thinking.
