@momoichi Then the problem was that the person you were with was didn't acknowledge you equally or respect/trust you enough to be truthful, honest, and appreciate you. And that THICCness. Being able to make money and visit isn't much about priorities, but more about if you wanna actually be able to actually move forward in a long-distance relationship....communication without being able to financially provide for yourself and hence, not visit, setting your relationship up for despair with frail promises to visit one day. But I digress, as I agree communication is still paramount in staying close with said person. All I'm pointing out is that providing for yourself is required to make any progress and not repeat history in any relationship, especially long-distance relationship.
You two awfully seem like equals to me

Not sure if online chat is actually "Dating"!?
I see it as more of an infatuation with someone's online persona. Most people project in chat rooms or MMO's on what they want to be perceived as not who they are so it's.hard to make a relationship last. I know many will say "well I don't or would never do that"
I also think of long distant relationships like applying for and getting a Job. Nobody really gets hired for their resume. It's when you go for a face to face interview that decides if you are the right person for the job kind of like a date would be. that is where you both combine with what you know about the person and what you see before you. If both of your expectation are met you get the job or go on the "date". But a relationship is a continuous series of interviews. You can ask questions over the phone or chat room talk about anything and everything. But it is the face to face is where the emotion is kept. Continual Hearing, seeing and touching is needed in any relationship. Remove any of those and you lose a big part of your relationship.
Close relationships are hard especially in this day and age even when all 3 are met (hearing, seeing, touching)
Now these 3 senses usually mean more depending on your sex. What I means is generally speaking, women cherish hearing, they want to talk and listen. That is why they usually know more about their partner then men. They understand that words are more powerful then most guys could ever understand. Guys cherish touching(not just in the sexual term) but in daily life as well. Thing are real to men when they can hold them in their hands. It makes them feel secure.
Seeing is shared by both men and woman equally and amplifies their their dominant sense. They each want to see emotion in their own way.
I wonder if I lost anyone....
In a nut shell, I don't ever think I could have a long distance relationship because something will always be missing for one or the other

Well, I don't exactly have a story yet...
But my girlfriend and I met online, and have a LDR going (she lives in a completely different country) and I think the successfulness of a LDR depends entirely on the individuals. To be fair, when we first started the relationship, she had immense trust issues, coupled with anxiety and depression, but I suppose hard work showing her that I can be trusted goes a long way. When it comes to our personalities, she's needy, in that she wants someone to be with and talk to, but not cling to me 24/7. Like Sab mentioned, women cherish hearing and talking a lot more.
So the thing is, don't do anything that could betray their trust and talk lots. (we talk all day erryday) We always type out our actions, which in some sense brings us that bit closer to one another? But being incredibly patient is a big part to a successful LDR. She says she's willing to wait forever if need be until I can see her (but we'll see how that works out). Also, we hold no secrets whatsoever, if anything happens, we'd tell the other, and I suppose lucky me that I can spot when something's off whenever we cam and stuff. It's all down to your individual personalities really. Of course, doing things together as much as possible helps, but if neither person is trusting, patient, &c, then there's no point. Oh, and try not to mind the missing parts of a relationship too much (like physical contact)
In short, I'm happy. My personality is pretty much all online anyway, and my friends always say I act IRL however I would act online. She doesn't mind my quirks, and I'm patient and tolerant whenever she has a breakdown or panic attack. As long as we both keep in mind that at the end of the day, both of us are still there for each other, and wouldn't just up and leave when the going gets difficult. I dunno. Do I make sense? Am I contributing a successful story?

In December 2014 I joined this side and met Sherflow. We started sending texts as well as being on here and started dating in January 2015. We'd do things like have long Skype calls, where we'd watch a film or The Walking Dead and talk through the episodes etc. We met in person in April, and I moved to be with him in May. We've been together ever since.
I don't think there's any great secret to success, though it helps if you're willing to move. Just talking, doing things together, making plans for the future, and putting in a lot of effort helps.
