What do you like about anime?

The art form. Funny enough, I have been thinking of this several hours ago. The background is watercolor; not too photorealistic, not too fantastical. The graphics is crisp, the colors are vibrant but not too much, and it gives me a healthy break from reality because you know, it's not real actors, not real people, and not real places. It feels like a different dimension or world, not just a medium.

Doraemon is the first anime I watched.I happened to watch its localized version on TV when I was around 3 years old, also in that year my grandma bought a few comic books of Doraemon from the annual fair of my town.Since then I've been fond of anime, but the number and genres of anime I watched were limited(during those years,I watched Digimon,Pokemon,Saint Seiya,Sakura,Chibi-maruko,Shin-chan and so on.) because I mainly watched localized ones on TV until I got access to the internet at the age of 15(what a pity, the signal wasn't good, that TV set only had a few channels)...I appreciation the imagination. The storylines are so exciting that I also want to join their adventures. http://p0.so.qhimgs1.com/bdr/200_200_/t01af5ff2b67e49698a.gif

I love being invested into moments and being lost in a big grand world made by just one persons mind. The animation and definitely the soundtrack are amazing when perfectly mixed together.

The art style just grows on me, and its hard to live without anything like it any other day now. Anime has a lot of perks compared to live-action/hollywood shows and movies. Anime provides creative freedom, limitless imagination, over the top climaxes, and I would also say merchandising it is also easier. Say for example: You wouldnt see figures of Scarlett Johansson in someones room, and shes portrayed in many movies. But you would see figures of like Fate characters, Dragon ball, etc. Seee if Scarlett had a bad movie one day, no one would want to buy a figure of her lol. Whereas a character from an anime is separated by the voice actors that play them. But we don't think about the voice actor as much as we do the character at hand since we'll always know that "this character will always sound like this to me". I do give the voice actors credit though cause they put put a lot of emotion in their acting, and thats what makes a character pop!! Oh and to add to figures, they are an easy discussion topic to talk about because they are attached to usually one anime/anime series. Hollywood Movie actors would be connected to many movies, and a person might say "Oh hey shes from Lucy!"(But you bought the figure for some entirely different movie that wasnt Lucy)

Depending on the anime, something to relate to. I do a lot of self reflection re-watching certain shows from time to time. Some anime give me inspiration and some characters grow on me once you start to get to know them and how they overcome their struggles. How often times people can stray from their path only to be exactly where they need to be in order to evolve as a person. Happy endings gives me something to hope for. Whether it be in my own life or just happy thoughts as I'm striving for my own happy ending. Slowly defining the path I need to take in order to fulfill and paint the picture I'm slowly piecing together in my life. Some anime manages to capture and project things I'm feeling whether it be simply stress, anger, joy, nostalgia, or sadness. It helps me process and cope with life when you have no one to turn to and no one to comfort you in your life. Anime is were my happiness lies, that and music (I can think of a good share of Anime OST that speaks out to me). It is where I grew up, a place where you could go back to in your mind.

Animation as a medium to me can transmit emotions like no other medium can, it feels like it can be so relatable while not intended to be realistic, and i absolutely love that contrast.
