Too Many Online Friends?

I notice on MO there are many people with say about 100 or more friends on their list and I'm thinking the bottom half are probably inactive but how do you guys keep in touch with all of them? I never had much luck in keeping in contact cause I usually don't know how to start the conversation off and don't want to sound stupid or weird or whatever .What is a good balance? Like 12 or less close friends maybe? I also notice some people say they want people that befriend them to keep in contact or they will unfriend them which is understandable but why do they send the friend invite if they know they won't talk to them?.But it's not just MO.Another even more extreme example of too many online friends is FaceBook.Some people have thousands of friends and to me it just seems awkward and unfair to buddy up to the few you like the best while overlooking the other 95%. Do you guys agree or disagree? >.<

NOPE TOO MUCH IS NEVER ENOUGH GIVE ME MOOAARRR well I mean it's not like we can talk to everyone right? although that would be amazing lol. Well the thing is also people just up and quit MO and that's about like 50% of people I used to talk to. I've had at least 25 people say to me ok we'll talk later and then BOOM never logged on again

But yeah half the people I knew on here disappeared over the years as well.Whenever I drop off the face of the site for a few months and return I always have friend invites but I have the hardest time in deciding whether to accept or not cause I don't want to lead them onto thinking I'm gonna keep up with every single one.I don't want a 100+ friends and only talk to 7.It gets confusing after awhile remembering everyones conversations too.Like,say you are talking to one person and then someone says"Hi" and you know them but you can't remember something important about them.Should you say and I'm just using this as an example a dog lover that owns 3 dogs"Hey,I forgot to ask"Do you have any pets?"And that most likely would make that person mad cause they talked to you about it already but when you have so many friends it becomes a hard endeavor

But yeah what you are saying I agree with too Juveh.So many leave so there are fewer people left to keep in contact with.That does make sense

With me it was always people around 15-17 trying to add me which at my age it's weird af lmao maybe it's cause of my Kirito profile pic

Around 95% of every friend on my list sent me the request, and most of them never try to talk to me after doing so. There's a couple people I keep in contact with regularly but not many. Used to speak regularly with a number of those people but things happen, people leave or loose interest, can't be helped.

On a more serious note, I've been on this site for around four years now (I lurk more than anything) and a lot of times it seems like its guys that are trying to hard, troll accounts, or girls that literally get swamped by guys. Best thing is to try and keep your friends list tidy. I think Yu, Kichigai, and Tri Tri are the only ones I see still get on that have been in as long or longer than I have been.
