Anyone into serious photography/video?

By which I mean you use more than your phone. What equipment do you use? What do you like to photograph? Lenses? I'm looking into a new camera this fall. I don't need full frame or the expensive lenses. Looking at micro 4/3rds which are currently as good as ASP-C cameras but with a bit cheaper lenses and still big enough for shallow depth of field with fast lenses. Also I need something with good video for future projects. I'm currently looking at: http://www.getolympus.com/us/en/e-m5-mark-ii.html http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NAKqHFhvUfw/VNONXhvSP_I/AAAAAAAAVAs/_hY-keX2Z3Y/s1600/Olympus%2BOMD%2BEM5%2BMark2_Snapseed.jpg http://www.getolympus.com/us/en/pen-f.html https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aYxJDZNiCUY/Vt9zR_H38hI/AAAAAAAACrk/hIkzURrC0_s/w800-h800/Pen%2BF%2BAdvert.jpg The Panasonic GX80/85 is very nice too but doesn't have a swivel lcd for selfies.

I bought a Canon EOS Rebel T6 DSLR bundle that I plan to take with me on annual training to take photos of our exercise. My only experience with photography was taking classes back in High School but I figured since I can't draw, I might as well take photos.

I was getting really into photography for a while and considered buying a DSLR but never got around to it. I still use an old cybershot but make things look halfway decent in photoshop. ( 95% of my photos were of figs btw. )

The big difference between DSLR's and point and shoot cameras is just the sensor size and range of controls. Most DSLR's have auto modes now anyway so you can use them as point and shoot style. The bigger sensor is better at low light shooting where cheaper cameras would need a flash and the onboard flash is usually horrible. I hate using flashes at all except in specific situations. Also a bigger sensor gives the picture more of the character of the lens. Like bokeh for example which helps to isolate the subject you are photographing by blurring the background. But there are so many small differences between lenses that are interesting and can be useful depending on the subject. Also you don't need a full size DSLR for that sensor size. For example, a Sony A6000 ($700 w/kit lens): https://i.ytimg.com/vi/qq4k4ruSaO8/maxresdefault.jpg Slightly older cameras are very cheap too: https://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Camera-18-55mm-3-5-5-6-Focus-S/dp/B004V4IWKG $450 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used/860680/?gclid=CNvwwb2RmM4CFZaMaQodcCkCyQ&c3api=1876%2C52248989522%2C $370 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/945059-REG/canon_8575b003_eos_digital_rebel_sl1.html $500

I kept my old old canon from college but I haven't used it since college.
