Anything can trigger PTSD, a smell, a sound, stress. Anything can bring memories flooding back, even if you don't know what triggered it. All you can do is try to work through it best you can. Find something to take your mind off of it and try to relax.

1 word: beta-blockers.
Okay, thats a hyphenated word. But seriously, if you've a serious psychiatric condition, and not merely trying to be an edgelord, see a psychiatrist and ask for a prescription of propranolol. They might recommend some other first-line or new one with less side effects, but it was the very first one I could think of.
Hope you feel better!

@nyquist I'd recommend not giving medical advice on here. It's good that TheSailingTeacup seems to be familiar with some medications. Patients receiving incorrect advice from laypersons can be damaging. And certainly there may be situations where it may be beneficial because doctors aren't perfect, but it generally strains the trust between the patient and the doctor. I know it sounds insensible but patients often take the advice of random people over doctors. That's part of how the anti-vaccine movement got to be so strong. And oh the things some patients and families ask because that's what someone else said or that's what was on the news. And then there are the doctors who give in to them and give them what they want even though it's not indicated.
@TheSailingTeacup I hope your therapy continues to go well. And I assume you understand what's meant by primitive brain and that no one is saying your brain is somehow lesser than the brains of other people? Because that would be an awkward thing to go around thinking.

Beta-blockers have an off-label use to treat PTSD. But I guess we all can't stay up-to-date on the literature.
@drmario: I'm sorry you misunderstood me. I wasn't dispensing medical advice; I was merely recommending she see a psych. Nothing less, nothing more.
