Wouldn't it be cool to make a continent or an island dedicated to all anime lovers

I want to know what you guys think. Don't you think it would be fun to have a continent dedicated to all anime lovers with all the anime in the world there. I would call mine "Animetopia"

Safe bet is it'd end with people there reenacting lord of the flies.

I've actually mulled over this a bit in my mind at work, except scaling it down to the level of just kinda a town or a commune, but then I remembered that the US government absolutely despises communes, and things like Waco happen as a result. Now lets just kinda leave the outside concerns of reality aside and entertain the idea. At best, I think it would be amazing, to see a thriving, weeabu culture, but then again, so would Marxism if the world were perfect. The reality of it however might be problematic, given how many Otaku interact with both other otaku and their own responsibilities. It takes grounded individuals to really keep things running, and to keep from being corrupt, it takes compassion and empathy in those individuals. And to be fair, I meet lots of Otaku who fit into that mold well. Responsible, keep the needs of the community balanced, hard working, realistic. I just... Kinda see a society of otaku largely riding on the backs of these individuals, growing dependent on them. But okay, thats just kinda an armchair assumption. Lets take the island scenario into account, lets get anime lovers from all over the world there and build a city... I suppose everyone will default to the Japanese language, so I don't think that the language barrier will be too much of a problem. But the clash of other cultural differences might cause some dramatic tension. We get that all the time here in America, where even in a college dorm, the chinese abroad students will pile their trash directly in the center of the room, the european guy sets off a girl's trigger because its much more acceptable in his culture to casually touch people, and the redneck doesn't understand why taking his new indian bro to the burger joint is a bad idea. I'm not saying we can't all get along, but its the little subtle differences that most people don't even think to acknowledge because they all have their own societal norms. And sure, a huge part about anime conventions is how easy it is to make friends based off of the one common singularity of EVERYONE THERE. So that would help alleviate that to a small extent, but in order to keep things going in the long run, there would need to be a cultural society of collective respect, love, and open mindedness that I think a lot of Otaku may think they have, but that I rarely actually observe in their behavior toward their own families, friends, and of course the all to common scapegoat: "Those People". Over all, I think an anime island idea would work best if it was like one of those ancient communities where all the outlying clans in the surrounding area convene at for a short period of the year. Larp communities for example tend to have a lot of drama behind them, similar to what could be found at an anime con. But they make it work, mostly because they don't have to see each other every day. All the negativity aside, as both an otaku, and someone with an interest in sociology, I would love to study a society like this.

I'd imagine it'd go as well as Rapture did in Bioshock. Yes and they'd even find a way to make superpowers.

Realistically, with each anime fan being different from each other, it can EASILY spiral out of control. Not everyone is the same and have the same morality. Some people take anime WAAAAY to seriously and will substitute anime logic with simple rights and wrongs (Mainly with groping/sexual harassment since more often in anime they make it seem like its normal to do) Another thing, in terms of different interest in terms of anime, some people don't respect others just for their taste in anime alone, with that others will feel like "The more anime you watch, the more Say & Rule you should have" and things can be unfair. -w-; I mainly dealt with extremes and norms in terms of anime fans. So id imagine it would be like letting a lot of roosters in a cage with 2 or three chickens, rather than what would happen if you had a puppy frolic. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TL;DR: Anime fans aren't ideal humans, so things would realistically go south real fast.

If were were all on an island, I think all the survivalist-genre otaku's would have an advantage or we'd go into withdrawal from lack of a computer or even shock because we have to actually talk to each other in person instead of behind a machine...*totally joking* It'd be neat for sure, but I do see potential concerns that would need to be addressed pretty quickly.

it would be cool but i have a feeling that even if its all just anime lovers some people will still feel left out
