Shockingly, it was the underager who became enraged by this; rather than looking at it as us wanting to protect them against pedophilia activity, they saw it as us just wanting to get rid of them on what, essentially, is an anime forum. Both sides had arguments about it and what is currently in place was the best solution, yet still easily able to get around.

Personally i have no problem with underage people on a dating/anime site. even if you block underage users, they could make a new account stating they are 18. THAT's where the bigger problems start as people will think they are dating someone 18. Most people these days start dating from 15+ y old averagely. So what's wrong with them reaching out to others? ( OF THEIR OWN AGE, of course.) Maybe a function could be added that 18+ members can't PM those underage & vice versa. That way all communication is publicly shown. Just spouting an idea, don't know if it's the solution !~having an 18+ label could also confuse people into thinking this is a sleezy otaku sex site. P.s.: On other sites & forums I often (platonic) had conversations with people underage, without much issues.

There is no actual solution to this issue without one extreme or the other, unfortunatly. If you make it 18+, it eliminates a majority of any pedophilic activities, as well as any liability if anything were to happen. It also means a lot of the current members here will be deactivated. If you make it all ages, it makes everybody happy. But easier to manipulate kids into doing what they want. That's not saying all over 18 will do that, just that it IS there and it's a lot more common than people think. But, I don't manage the site and I have no control on any of that. I just post here. Lol

fyi, age of consent changes depending on what part of the world (or country) you're in. Here it's 18 but in some places it can go as low as 16. Also, these days people don't really care about that sort of thing anymore anyway. while 18 may be the age of consent here, it's not uncommon for people to start dating around 14-15, start having sex by 16, and having kids by 17.

American website. Laws are based off area of origin.

As I said, age of consent verys not only by country but also by the part of the country too (ie states) A whois of maiotaku puts it in Iowa, where the age of consent is 16 http://whois.epik.com/MAIOTAKU.COM That said, there is no law that says you can't talk to, befriend, or even date someone underage. As long as you don't plan on sleeping with them until they come of age then there is no wrong doing.

Fine line there. Corrupting a minor is no joke.

*devil's advocate jumps in* Most girls I know were having sex by 14. Most of the freshman girls in my class lost their virginity to the senior guys, some of whom were 18 which is technically statutory rape. Nobody cared. Reality is that puberty kicks in, they start fooling around, dating, having sex, which usually start around 12-14. Minors are more than eager to corrupt themselves, they don't need adults for that. (It's why snapchat is worth like 15 billion dollars.) Having the word "dating" in the title of this site is irrelevant. It's not like pedos are going to go away or stay away because of it. It's the internet, unless you're going to have a completely separate internet for those over 18 and those under 18, people of both ages are going to interact. Personally, I wouldn't mind an over 18 otaku site so we could be as lewd as we want and not worry about "corrupting" all those "innocent" minors who know nothing about sex and certainly don't fap to xxx internet porn every chance they get...
