Harrassment at MoMo Con

Hello everyone I just wanted to share this video because I was just appalled. Honestly, this con didn't have a very good vibe to begin with. I even changed out of my more scant costume after only two hours because I just felt uncomfortable. Please take the time to watch this video and support this young lady. No one deserves this kind of treatment. http://youtu.be/qgKhGIkWfJo

I agree that its not ok for people to be harrassed i mean your there to have fun so why should you have to feel uncomfortable :/ yeah we all know that guys see the tiniest bit of side boob and go crazy but keep it in your pants and just go the other way...and people wonder why they end up as a 60 year old virgin with life long commitment to their right hand

Funny, I just watched this like 10 minutes ago. I don't understand harassers, what kind of logic gives you the right to shamelessly do this and completely get away with it. I wouldn't even dare thinking about doing what they do.

Devils advocate here. Not that dressing any particular way is a sign that says please touch...buuut....Don't you think you're only setting yourself up by dressing in a provocative manner? Now, it's up to the con to allow you to, but at some point one has to stop and think a little. Am I victim blaming? Hardly. But, it's the same as anywhere and people are people. No one should take advantage, but you know people will. If they don't touch, they will ogle, if they don't ogle, they will take pictures for "private time". It's just taking a chance and sadly for some it's just am advertisement for a "product". Dress as you wish, just understand that you can not stop people from being creeps, only hopefully prevent. The convention dealt the matter in a very shitty "We don't give a damn." kind of way and they should either limit what can be worn or have better and more available security. All they need is for one person to get rape and then someone will sue because they could've maybe prevented it thru a dress code, let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Hmm @ yaasshat how does one dress provacatively? Who decides what is provocative? I do understand you reasoning but isnt the point of cosplaying to be the character and dress as the character does? IT is however the job of security to protect the cosplayers and attendees from harm or harassment. They have a dress code and im certain was well within it otherwise they would not have let her in. Ill say this the clothes arent the problem and neither is the way you advertise yourself. This happen due to lack of security. It is their job to prevent these kinds of situations. Usually when doing their rounds they should take note of the cosplayer and read the situation. But then again we probably arent dealing with professional staff given the information provided in the video. My Younger sister went to this convention and i am glad she didn't cosplay mainly cause if this happened with her she probably would have handled it in a very violent way. Also if they change the dress code for all the kind of incident the only acceptable cosplay attire would probably be something along the lines of wearing a burka or something.

im speechless.. saying i feel sorry doesn't make up for what she went through :/ everyone has their own taste in anime and no one should be judged... ofcourse looking at a girl in bikini might turn someone on but at anime conventions dont we all go to see those sights.... cant believe managements are breaking down our world

stuff like this makes me happy i'm not a girl b/c i would be wearing the same exact shit she was + i would have absolutely no tolerance for people "fondling me" wtf

Altair, in the western culture you know exactly what provocative is. Again, I'm not victim blaming. I just think people want to believe they can act or dress as they please without consequence and that simply is not the case. Certain attire draws certain kinds of attention. Go to any bar/club and you'll know exactly what I mean. It is never ok to touch without consent, but many just don't care. Would you walk down a dark alley knowing you're taking a chance? You'd probably avoid it in favor of a safer rout. Sure, you shouldn't have an issue, but you know you're taking a chance. Is it your fault? No, but by now you should have a grasp on human nature. It's just called preventative maintenance. Also, I'd of been kicked out for getting into a fight if I dealt with that. Consequences, my friend. Consequences.

As someone who works as a staff member at a lot of cons, I'm really disturbed at the con staff's behavior. It bothers me the most out of this story because while we can say that being harassed by attendees is something that, while being unacceptable, is still unfortunately a risk but being harassed by the con security indicates a systemic issue. Every con I've worked at has a anti-harassment policy that we as staffers do our damnest to uphold. Con-goers should not have any hesitation at flagging down a con staffer whenever they encounter harassment issues.

I used to go to MoMo con before I moved. I can't believe the behavior of both the staff and the lack of recourse for sexual harassment. Women should be able to wear as little clothing as they want and not fear getting felt up. Unfortunately being in an environment with constant sexual stimuli can cause weaker willed men to act out. It should be punished.
